Wow, a lot of substance in that rant. Typical lib playbook: no response, resort to insults.
Why? Because it's a trap, designed to allow the Republicans in 2014 to run on "the Democrats cut $[insert amt] billion from [insert name of favorite popular program,]" -- the same way they ran on "saving Medicare" in 2010. You know Medicare, that's the program Republicans have been trying to kill since it was created and then they advertise that they are all of a sudden Medicare's savior.
You could probably just answer every question with this answer: "They are more concerned with getting re-elected than anything else."
The original idea was bad, regardless of who proposed it. If the White House did, they made a stupid mistake. But now what are republicans demanding? A last minute budget cut, no matter where? That is even more stupid. No country can be governed like that. Republicans will be responsible, no matter what. If there was a republican president and democrats acted like that, they would be responsible for sabotaging US.
As for not deploying the aircraft carrier, I disagree with Woodward. No country can be governed under a constant threat to be shut down. After the sequester, I guess a new crisis will be initiated by GOP. they'll do that for the entire 4 years.
