Would ban all semi-automatic rifles with a detachable magazine. That would ban 95% of all common rifles such as 223 and 308 calibers. This proposed legislation is so far out there that even the gun haters ought to see how silly it is:

California's state Senate Democrats roll out big gun control package - San Jose Mercury News

How can the mayor of LA support this? Surely he has future political aspirations. Is he too dense to see how ridiculous this is?

While, as a gun owner, I don't totally agree with the list. Maybe we ought to enforce the laws on the books first.

Who needs assault rifles with 20 round clips? Not I. I am a crack shot and I can assure that any home invasion person will get it either in the knee or eye with my bolt action rifle. Gads, no one has to have an assault rife. If you can't take out an intruder with a six shot revolver, you need to take lessons. Just sayin'.

I don't trust the Leland Yees of this state. First it was "assault" style rifles, now it's ALL rifles with a detachable magazine, next will come hunting rifles with internal magazines. Then shotguns and lever-action rifles with tubular mags. Before we know it we'll be left with muzzle-loading flintlock muskets... until Yee and his ilk come for those.

Go for it. No one needs guns like that. I live in a part of the state where hunting is common and no hunter needs a gun like that for deer or duck season. My dad had a half dozen hunting rifles and I own a small caliber revolver so its not like I don't come from a gun owning background. Again, no private citizen needs an assault rifle who express purpose is to mow down as many people as possible (such as the Newtown children).

They can't come for those because the second amendment was written at the time when that's what people had.

And... it was State of the Art at that time.

Dammit I forgot to mention that pesky "well regulated militia" part

Gun control won't do anything unless it's NATIONWIDE. It's not difficult to cross the border.

I'd say that the most popular rifle caliber in use today (outside of the 22) is the 223/556. Would anyone care to point me in the direction of a company that makes a 223/556 WITHOUT a detachable magazine? I can name 100 models with detachable mags, but can't think of one model without it.

You in favor of outlawing the caliber used by more people than anything else today?
