As long as it stays out of public areas and you don't expose kids to it, I don't care what you do. After the initial furor, it will become looked down upon the same way cigarettes are now.
Yes, I agree. Right now, pot is hip and trendy, but it's just as gross, stinky and harmful as cigarettes (I mean your putting smoke directly into your lungs for crying out loud), once the "cool" factor wears off, people will realize that smoking pot is just as much as a total loser habit as smoking cigarettes is.
Perhaps people should, at a minimum, do a google search and educate themselves about marijuana. No, it has NOT been found to cause many of the biggest health risks (lung and other cancers, heart disease, COPD, increased risk of dementia) that tabacco does. Marijuana is not physically addictive, as nicotine is. Marijuana has accepted medical uses, (pain management, preventing seizures, anti -nausea properties, appetite stimulant, etc). Although not entirely harmless (it is a drug), marijuana has far fewer adverse health risks than cigarettes (and alcohol). Whether marijuana or cigarettes are “cool” seems silly. Marijuana has become more popular as people recognize that in moderation, it’s health risks are minimal and many find it relaxing. Whereas smoking cigarettes is extremely harmful to the smoker’s body and those exposed to second hand smoke. No drug is 100% safe but numerous scientific research finds marijuana to have minimal health risks, with the exception of its effects on youth. There is support that, as teenagers brains are still developing, frequent exposure to THC may adversely impact neurological development.

This is all a lie and Big Marijuana propaganda. You're a shill for Big Marijuana.

Noone is advocating for chain smoking of pot. Smoking pot at the rate of cigarette smokers will most likely destroy your life, and you couldnt. Who is smoking 20 joints a day (a pack a day smoker). A lot more people would vape it or eat it if it was legal, its just a lot easier to illegally buy dry herb than oil or edibles.
Like anything in excess is harmful, but peopel should have the choice like they do in tobacco or alcohol.
Nurider's post was pretty accurate. Is inhaling anything in your lungs less than ideal? Sure.
But there are all kinds of ways to ingest, and methods of smoking intended to reduce the smoke and damage to lungs.
LOTS of things are unhealthy. But I don't chastise people who eat an ice cream sundae, it's all balance and moderation.
I have a CBD/THC mix that you take with an eyedropper.

What a bunch of bunk.
I'm surprised this thread is still open. You are the OP, supposedly asking an honest question. But as I pointed out earlier in this thread, this thread is just a repeat of another thread started by you, years ago, where you asked the exact same "honest" question, and the 445 replies put your propaganda in its proper place.
EDIT: I see now your 2 threads have been merged.
But you haven't learned a thing, just like you didn't before. The combination of threads proves you are just a shill for the prohibitionist movement, and you care little about facts.
From post #500:

Hey everyone, don't bother with this thread. I just found another thread created by the same poster, asking the exact same question, from 2013. It has 445 replies.
Obviously, this poster is purely political and has no desire to find an answer.
Marijuana actually has more tar in it and can damage your lungs even more than smoking. However, the amount of pot one smokes is drastically less than the number of cigarettes a person will smoke in any given day.
I honestly don't know why one would be cool and not the other, maybe b/c you can get stoned or high on pot and not on cigs. Cigs really serve no purpose. They used to be cool, and now they're not so much, so maybe pot will go that way, too. Not really sure since I don't hang out with a lot of people who do either.
There is a lot of misinformation in this post. If you really don't know anything about the effects of cannabis, why not do some research and than comment?
For example:
Since you smoke, vape or eat a lot less of cannabis than you would tobacco, it doesn't affect your lungs to the extent that it would cause a disease like cancer or emphysema. In fact cannabis has substances within it that counteract the chemicals it has in common with tobacco when burned. However, if tobacco and cannabis are used at the same time, the two have a synergistic affect that causes the negatives of tobacco to be enhanced.
Tobacco cigarettes do serve a purpose! Geez! They cause a feeling of mild euphoria, enhance a feeling of well being, help to control anxiety, are an appetite suppressant, makes you feel as if you are thinking with more clarity and that you are in control, etc.
Tobacco has also been described by a former Surgeon General of the US as being as addictive as heroin, while cannabis is about as addictive as caffeine!
"Pot" is not going away. It is providing millions of dollars to the states that are taxing and regulating it.
Just a few differences you can find out with a simple google search.
Same question will tell you why one is legal and subsidized by the government but the other is illegal and punished harshly.
Maybe.
As I wrote in my last post from January, I don't make a judgment one way or the other, but I can make an observation about the cultural narrative and formulate a conclusion on the basis of that narrative given the facts at hand.
I don't do either activity, nor do I care if anyone else does either, so long as it isn't inside my house or on my property. I also haven't paid much attention to what is cool or isn't since I was in middle school.
I enjoy this topic because it doesn't split along party lines.
Rather, the authoritarian factions of each party want to control it and the non authoritarian factions think people should be left alone over it.
You can see the busybody mirror personalities from both sides, basically the same people just raised left or right - and since they are authoritarians, the conditioning from their youth is intractably ingrained.
