There are no cuts being proposed. EVERYONE RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY WILL GET A COLA NEXT YEAR, THE YEAR AFTER THAT AND EVERY OTHER YEAR. THERE ARE NO CUTS. NO ONE WILL RECEIVE LESS BENEFITS.
The GOP does not have to explain anything. It is the Demcrats that must explain to their voting blocs why their president is throwing them under the bus. If they don't like the answer, look for the GOP to win back the Senate in 2014.
Wrong it's the Republican's who are whining, and flip flopping. They were for chained CPI before they were against it.

Bush did it, Republicans are to blame, it was because of the weather, it's bush's fault. Same old, same old, blame, blame, blame and liberals fall right in line.

But their purchasing power will fall. Your task is to ecplain to them how it's not a cut.
I defend it, in principle. If we want to balance the budget over the long haul and get people back to work and the economy going in the near term, we need modest tax hikes, infrastructural spending, and we need to address the exponentially rising entitlement costs. While I don't want to roll granny off the cliff, the truth is a small adjustment now will avoid a catastrophic adjustment later. The issue must be addressed or all other domestic spending will be consumed and future generations will be screwed. The boomers have had a good run, they can stop pretending to be victims and give a bit too.
How much do you expect burger flippers to give? They have already paid a very high price for our failure to enforce our borders.
Title of the thread is false. The are not going to be any cuts to social security.
Obama wants to change how the COLA is calculated. THE INCREASE THAT ALL SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS GET EVERY YEAR.
The average monthly payment is $1150 a month. If the COLA at one calculation is 3.2%, the monthly increase would be $36.80. If the formula is changed and it is found that the increase is only 3.0%, the monthly increase would be $34.50 What people are whining about is $2.30 a month less but still a $414 yearly increase.
THERE ARE NO CUTS
the bolded is false....there have been many years..(the last 3) that have had no raise (COST OF LIVING raise) or nearly no raise at all...0% in 2010, 0% IN 2011, AND A 1.7% FOR 2013.....2012 GOT A 3%, BUT THE INCREASED COST OF MEDICARE PREMIUMS KILLED THE ENTIRE COLA
The left howling about chained cpi is annoying. I consider myself a Democrat.
People living on $800 a month can't afford that kind of cut.
