Some rules are meant to be broken - such as rules that endanger the public. These zero tolerance rules are stupid and made as a kneejerk reaction to hysteria built up by the media with an agenda.
Problem - Reaction - Solution - more problems

How about correcting a mistake when no one is looking?

You got a problem with that?

"On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight."

Duty first, brains last.

What could possibly go wrong?

The dutiful are not qualified to think.

It was against school rules for him to leave once he was on property. He could have turned around and left, but he had to get permission to leave. It's okay to correct a mistake. So from your message below, it's okay to break a rule when no one is looking? It's okay that this creates a problem for you. I can see where it would for many.

I agree. The zero tolerance rules are overboard.

In this case, it really did. He did the right thing. It creates a dilemma.

You're starting to get on my nerves.

You're not getting it.

He also "broke the rule" when HE wasn't looking.

Having a gun in his truck for the whole school day was not more of a problem than having it there for one hour.

Indeed, there was NO REAL PROBLEM in the first place. NONE AT ALL.

There was no problem with what the zero tolerance rule was designed to prevent.

You just want everyone to SHARE, don't you?

Thank you for SHARING that with us.

Just suppose that there was, and there probably was, another rule that required all students to report any suspicious activity.

Was the Eagle Scout doing anything suspicious?

Ooooooo! That's a purely subjective question!

If it were me, and the "tagging" prevented me from being accepted at West Point, I would sue the school for having rules and procedures that jeopardize and ruin the students' lives.

Giving "rules" to the stupid and hysterical to enforce is like giving a loaded pistol to a 4-year old.
