Democratic voters have never supported the Patriot Act. Certainly a lot of Democratic elected officials have supported the Patriot Act and obviously President Obama wanted the Patriot Act extended in 2011, but the reality is the most of the opposition to the Patriot Act comes from Democrats.

The majority of the support for the Patriot Act comes from conservatives.

In fact, as long as conservatives demand that we stay at war with terrorists, as long as conservatives demand that President Obama say we are at war, then the Patriot Act will stand and so will the surveillance state.

End the war on terror, end the Patriot Act, close down Gitmo, then the authority for expanded powers to fight the perpetual war on terror ends.

If you aren't for ending the war on terror, closing GitMO, ending the idea of indefinite detention, then you are for the surveillance state.

The most troubling thing about all this to me is that a news source outside the United States, The Guardian, broke the story. Maybe the AP would have reported it first if the government hadn't been surveilling them.

Mighty funny that conservatives are forcing the hand of the Dems in power yet conservatives couldn't get their guy into the Oval Office last November.

Sorry Iamme73 but you are just giving your party an easy out by blaming the right and portraying the left as victims.

So 1/3 of all Americans need to be monitored until the middle of July in order to keep the country safe.
I don't, hence the quote marks.

The entire secretive aspect of the system is not about catching the bad guys, it's about letting the government be the bad guys. And it seems to be working.
But that is what happens, the judge isn't going to be the one to stand in the way of them getting the terrorists, a private company isn't going to want to be in the way of them getting the terrorists, congress isn't going to want to be in the way of them getting the terrorists, so basically there seems to be little oversight, which is all very predictable and obvious.

Now the lesson for all should be to end the war on terror, close GITMO, get out of Afghanistan, stop the whole idea of indefinite detention, kill the Patriot Act.

But conservatives don't want to do any of that. President Obama gave a speech very recently in which he said this war has to end and these expanded powers have to end.

conservatives the next day, the same day, the minute he stopped talking were saying they disagreed with the President, that we are at war, and that GITMO has to stay open, that the war in Afghanistan has to continue, etc. This is where conservatives are and they love the Patriot Act.

Some of us have been telling you this for years that the most objective news about the US comes from other countries.

Maybe now you'll sit up and take notice that our MSM is bought and paid for.
Even the leakers are going to foreign press with their information.

You need to stop listening to what Obama says and start reading about what Obama DOES.
Obama has signed all of these bills and extensions to the Patriot Act.

What Obama says is not what he does and there is the problem that many Dems don't see.

What the judge should have told the NSA/FBI was to come back with 121,000,000 individual requests.
