omfg, you posted a link to FOX NEWS?

And in case this story were to be true (which I don't believe since Fox is lies told in news format), hell, even I'd tell ANYONE to stop reading right wing bs and occupy their time with some good lit or some real news. Life is finite and time is too precious to waste on crap.

Nah, Army won't retrain him. Not after 25 years in that MOS.

I guess I knew about the band stuff at one time. But sure didn't have anything to do with them. An audition? No kidding. Ah, I was in the Signal Corps we didn't put up with bull crap like that.

They'll find some not nice spot for him. Korea might be the place. God, I hated there but that was a long time ago, maybe its better now. No doubt, he'll be taken care of.

EDIT - Funny. I just asked my wife if she were aware of the band audition thing. She said of course, don't you remember about ......? No. I don't remember that case. So, I stand corrected.

They have to fit enough to pass a PT test, just like every other solider.

Maximum age of most military members is 62, they changed it from 55 a few years ago. Waivers can be granted up to age 68 if they are general officers or in critical shortage areas. Needless to say, a member of the band would not qualify for that.

See bold. /snicker.
Yeah, my husband had basically the same reaction. This isn't a solider who was destined to greatness regardless.

Let me in on the secret. And he's got the AF version too.

Everybody gets an Army Commendation Medal - everybody. Generally "better" medals are handed out as you go up in rank and years in. If that is the only thing they have to wave as proof he was doing well while spending 25 years in uniform before all this mess happened, then he hasn't really done well at all. After that many years, and at that rank, he should have had other, better medals including a Meritorious Service Medal.

This is a fairly good explanation:

They are the standard award for doing your job well during your duty tour and are awarded when you PCS to another duty station, they are also awarded during or after a deployment for doing your job well.

Pretty much everyone will be awarded a ARCOM during their first enlistment at one time or another.

Its not uncommon for someone with 4 years service to have been awarded a ARCOM several times.

I figured you'd say it's given out like candy but thanks for the detail. From the band's website:

"His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal"

Maybe you can describe with the other Army ones are. I don't think there's much chance of bandsmen getting many more types unless maybe they are deployed overseas. What else can they do? He sings good. How many medals can that cover? But anyone that says he's "highly decorated" has another thing coming (though I don't know if someone said that).

Easy solution to the problem. Recover the books with the jackets from 'Rules for radicals', one of the Obama novels and 'It takes a village'.
