It is kind of odd that Chicago violence gets so much attention now, when I grew up here and violence used to be much worse, New York and LA and even Gary IN murder rates used to garner a lot more attention than Chicago's murder rate, and again I remember when 1000-800 people would be murdered here in a year back in the late 80's early 90's. Comparatively 400-500 is a large decline.
I get the Obama thing.

I also get that NOLA is the poster child for gun violence and open carry is permitted.

100% correct....and then add indifference to devote resources to tackle those problems.

Ah, papa Daley would be proud. After all, he was the guy that ran MLK out of town and set the civil rights movement back a couple years by turning a blind eye to racial discrimination and a deaf ear to their pleas.

You can see his hand in a lot of Chicago's housing project locations....wayyyyy out there where they won't be bothering richer, whiter people.....

Nashville TN had a higher murder rate than Chicago. It gets tiring to see so many gullible people read mess and not think for themselves.

Just because people don't want everyone carrying guns doesn't mean that crime will be higher.

Gun violence isn't destroying Chicago any faster than Detroit, St. Louis or Nashville. Get over it!
Your right they all have murder rates that are too high .But Chicago's is alarming that it reached record breaking number last year from previous years two months from end of year. Can't ignore the fact that it and some other cities are trending the opposite of other large cities.

There are lots of poor people who do not act violent. Making excuses for violence is just what this man said on the video.. No excuse is good enough for shooting a one year old baby. He is right!

Lots of non religious people don't commit acts of violence either. You tried to make this about religion when religion doesn't have anything to do with this.

Yeah, I followed your link. NOLA's murder rate by gun is much, much higher than any big city. It was nearly double the number 2 city.

The whole gun control nutters and their insistence that if more people have guns fewer people will die rhetoric is ignored.

I don't waste my time. There are very few people in the city or surrounding suburbs who think more guns in the hands of more people is the solution to gun violence. Again it is as they say crazy talk.

Of course we could end a lot of these debates or least some of it could be settled if the government was allowed to study gun violence in a more comprehensive manner and wasn't being blocked by the gun lobbyists and the politicians who support the gun lobby.

They are absolutely picking a fight with LEGAL gun owners because of their politically expedient excuse.

They have murder rates in part of Chicago similar to Japan and in other parts similar to Mexican border towns.

Gee, the problem must be guns and not poverty and lack of opportunity etc.
This is a straw man. I don't think most Chicago politicians would deny that poverty and lack of opportunities as well as gangs and the drug trade or turf wars are huge contributors to gun violence.

Let's be very honest, most Chicago citizens do not own a gun and don't want to own a gun. Those citizens voted in elected officials who shared that same view. They then proceeded to enact laws to do just that.

Now as a thinking person, you know that right now it is said that American guns purchased either legally or illegally in this nation wind up as a huge supply of the illegal guns in Mexico, because of course lax gun laws by your neighbors can impact you.

So the same thing applies to the city of Chicago which is not an island, which doesn't have walls up and checkpoints to enter the city.

So despite the laws on the books, guns from surrounding areas get into the city, and maybe despite the existing gun laws maybe the citizens and elected officials in Chicago see loopholes in the existing laws or blind spots in the law that need to be addressed?

And let's not forget that murder is down from the relatively recent past a lot. Maybe those gun laws contributed to that huge drop?

Again, I remember when 800-1000 people were murdered every year in Chicago when I was growing up, that has declined a lot.

It has more basis than you can fathom. Today the world glorifies evil .. look at the thug music with lyrics such as if you can't get a job go steal and rob.. go kill a cop. The world runs to the worst kind of evil and supports it. It is cool to be bad.

It was not like that in the years past because people had a moral God that directed them.. and it permeated into our culture..

good is bad,, and bad is good..liberals creed ..

today watching NBC's Matt Lauer was an example..as he watched a segment on legalizing pot and the cops giving the pot smokers munchies.. this is insane and the news people laugh because it is quite amusing what is happening to our culture as drugs will be glorified as the drugs are accepted. It is a slippery slope and no one is held accountable today. No morals on TV anymore.

So, since most victims of this gun violence are young black men, the solution is to encourage more young black men to get and carry guns.

Right?
