There are plenty of white, Hispanic and Asian families in "destruction"

Government has been sending a large number of Somali refugees to the Twin Cities. Where is my slavery?
And again another person pulling the race card, do you know how many white Asian and Hispanic people are in jail or on welfare?

I think immigration overall will be curtailed. One of the misconceptions is that being for less immigration is a right wing endeavor. Read the comments that accompany an article on immigration in the NY Times, the comments run about 80/20 negative. This on a board dominated by liberals.

To the OPs point beyond Nigeria and Ethiopia I doubt immigration from Africa will increase substantially. The diversity lottery is on its way out. That leaves family reunification and those who can get here on tourist/student visas and find ways to adjust status.

Did it appear that I was pulling the race card, or are you saying the GOP doesn't play it? I'm not sure of the point you are making?

If what you are saying is true, this still does not mean that the U.S. can't change its immigration policy in the future (in the next several decades) to make it more favourable to Black/Sub-Saharan African immigrants.

my dad himself was from a jungle in sudan and went onto to get his bachelors at northwestern, masters at kansas, and doctorate at nebraska.

I previously read some similar statistics about African immigrants to the U.S. being very well-educated.

Also, congratulations to your dad for/on his huge successes!

It is a shame to see diversity go by the wayside. I am all for curbing family reunification migration also. We are getting too many from one ethnic group that way. Our immigration policies/quotas should be based on diversity and our needs as a nation. We need immigrants that will benefit our nation not burden it. I galls me that someone can violate their visa terms or come here illegally and then adjust their status. It is rewarding them for not following the rules.

We are already seeing large pockets of African immigration in large cities, particularly on the East Coast. In the DC area we have well established African immigrant populations from the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Eritrea) with a growing group of West Africans (particularly Nigerians and Ghanans).

Given the distance and cost barrier of coming to the U.S. from Africa, we are getting mostly middle and upper class immigrants with advanced degrees and skills. Poorer Africans are illegally immigrating to Europe.
