It was closed probably because all parks are supposed to be closed, but you would think they could leave some stuff open, but then you need someone to come up with a list of stuff to remain open. Why are parks closed? I don't know why they can't just leave the gates open and let people enter at their own risk? Do they worry about vandalism, theft, law suites? Could be. I don't know. It's funny some Republicans tried to suggest Obama personally ordered this particular park closed, whey full well know all parks are closed.
The War Memorial government web-site has always said that the Memorial is open 24 hours a day .... until of course the Obama Administration decided to use it to cause "pain" and keep the Veteran's Honor Groups from attending. This is not a popular thing with many people. A group is scheduled to go on October 9th from Ohio. They plan these trips a year in advance, with most of them attending during the month of October. The Park Service has informed the Ohio group that they are subject to arrest if they attempt to visit the WWII War Memorial - although the person who told them that refused to give their name. This is Mean Spirited intimidation - it's comes from the top.
The public may visit the World War II Memorial 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily and to provide interpretive programs every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Obama administration has also stopped all football game at the military academies during the shutdown. The coach is not furloughed, and the games are revenue generating, so to stop the games actually loses money for the government.
Just another example of Obama trying to hurt innocent people. It's the sequester all over again.

Why do we owe them the monument? The monument is under the auspices of the National Park Service, which is closed.
This shutdown is a complete joke, in my opinion. WIC and Head Start programs are shutting down, yet people start crapping their drawers because a MONUMENT might close.
