Try again.
I know these programs were established as a part of the New Deal but they were expanded under LBJ.

Because.......wait for it...........minimum wage workers didn't make enough to maintain an accepted minimum standard of living and needed our help to live, feed and clothe themselves.

So, minimum wage was raised. And guess what? The programs didn't end but, in fact, expanded. What does that tell you?

No it's because a war on poverty was declared. Are you really this ignorant of recent American history? And minimum wage did not go up after 1968. It started declining when you adjust for inflation. So in other words the burden for supporting low wage workers was shifted to tax payers.

Not so ignorant to think that any artificial raising of a wage is going to end any sort of governmental program.

No, in other words, the definition of poverty was adjusted to account for inflation.

War on poverty started in 1968? wow, how many years is that?
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It is obvious that it is not working so we need to stop welfare and try something else.

I don't want an artificial wage adjustment. I want a real adjustment so the working poor can get off welfare.

Agreed - that something else is a significant raise in the minimum wage.

Which will hurt small businesses far more than those greedy big companies like Walmart.

Oh, and there is no such thing as "subsidizing low wage workers." Someone APPLIES for a job. They may be OFFERED that job, with a specified compensation package. If they ACCEPT that job, then they're accepting that compensation package. If it doesn't meet their needs, then they should keep looking, increase their value in the workforce or find an additional income stream.
So you'd be okay with someone passing up work and collecting benefits until they found a job that paid enough for them to not need assistance?
