Should government tell developers how many housing units they can build or the density they are allowed? Should government tell landlords how many unrelated individuals can live in a dwelling? Should there be government supply controls (zoning)?
Never said there should be cap, who would do that? But a floor? Oh yes. As soon as wages can go below the minimum they will and it will have zero affect on the price of goods, but wages will go down. Wonder what you'll be paying your workers when everyone else starts paying them 5-7$ less an hour. Wonder how much you'll bring in after this goes down.
You say "as soon as wages can go below the minimum they will". Why? If that's the case, why doesn't everyone make minimum wage right now?
You say "and it will have zero efffect on the price of goods". Why? If that's the case, why are prices different at different stores?
Centuries of market economics tells us your contention is wrong. What tells you that your contention is right?
Depending on what part of the country you're in, I'd say 8 to 10 bucks an hour.....
That being said, I'm of the camp that says you should go out and get some skills that warrant higher pay.........trade schools, junior colleges, tech schools.
Siting back and demanding to be paid a certain wage seems to be, IDK... whiny, for a lack of better way of putting it, take control of your life and make some decisions about where you are going.
??? What if that requires money (for education or training) that you don't have?
Then be the best damn burger flipper you can be and work to get promoted to crew leader and then assistant manager etc.
With each promotion you gain you experience, character and more money because you have proven yourself to be more valuable to your employer.
Then you take that experience to build a resume to go beyond the fast food industry.
Millions of people, including myself, worked our way up from entry level positions because thats what entry level is supposed to be....a starting point to build a career from.
It's not supposed to be a taxpayer subsidised pity party for you to hang out at.

Second to that.
On the other hand, advocating this stupid idea is a good way to get votes for the Democrats. :-(
what should the lowest wage be...depends n the AREA and the SKILL SET
I don't see why or how that leads to a better nation. It certainly will lead to a nation with more income inequality and disparity, which is notably bad.
If we're going to have a minimum wage, let's implement it honestly, the same way as ag price supports. Farmers are able to sell their production at market prices, but if the market price goes below a certain level, they get a subsidy to make up the difference.
The minimum wage and the ag price supports are both minimum price controls, but the latter is done in such a way that it actually benefits farmers, while the former is done in such a way that it actually tends to hurt the low wage workers that it purportedly helps. In essence the fiat minimum wage that we have is a fraud, a political sleight of hand.

So the government should subsidize the labor cost of low wage employers? I don't see why that's superior to having the employer pay a minimum wage.

At multiple levels.
1. It's not stupid or feel-good.
2. People who aren't employed can now have a job even it pays maybe $5/hour.
3. Business will start to bring jobs back from overseas or hire Americans instead of the illegals.
4. The illegals will have to go home as they now have direct competitions, resulting in less drain on our country.
5. Less money spent on welfare.
6. Low skill workers will have an entry point to a better employment life later.
