In the entire middle-eastern situation it seems that if it's 'our side' it's a pre-emptive strike and if it's 'their side' it's an unprovoked attack, doesn't much matter where the sides fall. And the sad thing is it seems very often they're fighting over land that no one really wants/needs but if 'they' want it then 'we' must fight for it.

You seem to mistakenly assume that I regard the conflict as a reversal of your good guy vs. bad guy perception, with the Palestinians as the heroes and the Israelis as the villains rather than the opposite. I don't. Both sides have blood, atrocities, oppresion, and irrationality on their hands but I see no need to demonize the people we happen to not be allied with.

Reporting the news -- sad, tragic, and disheartening though it is -- is not demonization.
It's not the news but your comments on the news, the "Oh, look at those Palestinians, they all want war and death to the West and to destroy our way of life and to worship Bin Laden, they're crazy, as are all Arabs" kick that you get on every time the topic comes up.
Baloney. Protests break out against peace talks and folks die. You can turn that any way you want -- it still comes up insane hatred.
But you exxagerate the extent.
