Considering that I have a great deal of contempt for both parties ... your little jab was pointless, but thank you for trying anyways.

Prior to Kennedy "betraying" them, the distinction between northern and southern democrat was quite simple: Northern Democrats ran interference and made sure nobody meddled with the Jim Crowe south. In return the Southern Democrats delivered the vote of the South in every single presidential election. This was no easy task mind you. There was a very large black population in the south and the Dems pulled out every trick in the book to keep them from actually voting ... and they always succeeded in delivering the bulk of the southern states to the Democrats.

Don't believe me? Post Civil War Reconstruction was pretty much completed by the time the 1876 election rolled around, so go look for yourself and see how many times the Dixiecrats succeeded in getting the south to light up blue. From 1876 to 1960, the Dixiecrats carried the south for the Democrats.

Even the most popular Republican Presidents like Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower couldn't break the Dixiecrat's dominance of the south and had to rely on winning the north, midwest and western states.

I do find it highly amusing that the states always carried by the same party has completely reversed itself over the last 100 years.

WTF are you talking about.

The BS is BS, period, whoever says it. It's not factual. It's not American history. It's. A. Lie.

Look, any moron can spend about 10 seconds Googling this subject and find out that this meme is a lie. Why do you bother trying to convince us otherwise?

How can you keep telling a lie that 10 minutes with Google or a single US history book proves is a lie?

Why does anybody hallucinate that ancient history scores political points today when those positions have been reversed?
This pretty well nails it. It's an absolutely fascinating history watching the two political parties do a complete role reversal on virtually every issue.

There are two areas where it wasn't a true reversal though and the topic of this thread is one of them. The Democrats abandoned their role as the party of racial discrimination. With Kennedy as a sacred martyr to the cause of racial equality, the Dems have thrown themselves at the issue with great vigor. For their part, the Republicans were more than happy to let the former Dixiecrats vote for them, but the GOP as a whole hasn't done jack squat to support the Dixiecrat cause of racial discrimination since then. So today you have a choice between "not particularly racist" and "super-duper non-racist".

The other example is war hawkery. The Democrats were always very hawkish. Prior to Ronald Reagan, it was a Democrat President that dragged us into just about every major war in US history. The only exceptions were the Civil War and Spanish-American War. It was Democrats who got us into the war with Mexico, World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Republicans like Eisenhower and Nixon were the ones getting us out of wars. The Republicans were traditionally the voice of restraint. President Reagan effectively flipped the script and the GOP has been the war hawk party ever since. But the Dems never really embraced the role of advocating peace and restraint. At this point, you have a choice between aggressive war hawk Democrats and even more aggressive war hawk Republicans.

Clinton did everything he could to support Nafta going against the working man. Ross Perot fought against it and Clinton bought votes through bribes.. as the union leaders said,, clinton opened his candy store and offered anything to get a vote to pass nafta. It was no way the right thing to do for the democrats are now , not for the working man.. they have passed on that and it is now for the illegals and constantly giving the shaft to the unions.. and the working Americans.. the democratic party is anti-American.

what I am saying is the party that is suppose to support the working man is dead!!

Republicans stand for small government, capitalism, ..Dems big government and the WORKING man..

The working man no longer has a voice. It is now the party of illegals.. They elective body of congress fights for the rights of illegals, not the working man.

I believe in the balance of power. Socialism has taken over the democratic party. It is no longer for the working man. The democrats have turned into the power hungry party and will give the shaft to Americans and the dems still believe they are worth a vote. Pretty amazing but not too amazing because the liberal media has fooled them into staying with the party. Many have turned into independents but they are being fooled too with big government which they oppose.
