You know Republicans wrote NAFTA, right? NAFTA is a Republican bill.

Why does anybody hallucinate that ancient history scores political points today when those positions have been reversed?
And you post that as truth.. that is very laughable. Reading garbage and believing it and posting it.. very laughable

You don't get it.. the Republicans believe in free trade... I voted Ross Perot who was against Nafta.. Clinton pushed it through. I was against nafta as it hurt the working man and America. YOu must define me with a big R on my head. This system of things is going down..

I believe in small government, free trade done right, and working mans rights.. not illegals..

Free trade is in the name of NAFTA. Bush was fast tracking this into creation, it was basically his legacy that he didn't get to sign into law after losing to Clinton.

I didn't vote for Bush.. I was against Nafta.. the party that was to defend the working man did not.. I am more for the balance of power than the party.

Party does not define me. I lean republican today because the democratic party is unrecognizable to what it used to be when I leaned democrat.

Just pointing out a fact that Republicans supported NAFTA.

Which part of his post is a lie? The Progressive Party of the early 1900's was championed but former Republican President Theodore Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt made himself famous as an uncompromising anti-corporation trust buster. The Progressive Party was to the GOP back then what the TEA Party is today.

1912 Progressive Political Party Platform:
  • Strict limits and disclosure requirements on political campaign contributions
  • Registration of lobbyists
  • Recording and publication of Congressional committee proceedings
In the social sphere the platform called for
  • A National Health Service to include all existing government medical agencies.
  • Social insurance, to provide for the elderly, the unemployed, and the disabled
  • Limited injunctions in strikes
  • A minimum wage law for women
  • An eight hour workday
  • A federal securities commission
  • Farm relief
  • Workers' compensation for work-related injuries
  • An inheritance tax
  • A Constitutional amendment to allow a Federal income tax
The political reforms proposed included
  • Women's suffrage
  • Direct election of Senators
  • Primary elections for state and federal nominations
  • The platform also urged states to adopt measures for "direct democracy", including:
  • The recall election (citizens may remove an elected official before the end of his term)
  • The referendum (citizens may decide on a law by popular vote)
  • The initiative (citizens may propose a law by petition and enact it by popular vote)
  • Judicial recall (when a court declares a law unconstitutional, the citizens may override that ruling by popular vote)

Granted, the Progressive Movement of today ain't exactly the same thing. It is actually very different on many levels, but the Republican Progressives of the early 1900's clearly supported many similar causes.

Ronald Reagan was a Democrat when he first entered politics. He later switched to the Republican party, as a result of the Democrats' long slide from classical liberalism (which was mostly conservative) toward hard-left socialism.

As he put it, "I didn't leave the Democrat party. The Democrat party left me."

I am fine with the Democrats becoming more progressive and moving away from the conservative dixiecrats, the Republicans can have them.
