Friend of mine got nailed for Driving Under The Influence lae last year.8 Yr old guy, no priors, just had a bad night and got nailed. Wished he would have called me before he made that decision but whatever.
Long story short he paid a lawyer 2 grand to get it knocked down to a recklass driving ticket, is this right?
The system still got thier 5 Grand payoff, thats all they were concerned about as far as i saw.Guess my question is, are DUI's a moneymaker to the cops, or do the seriously care about the public"s safety?
I do know cops get bonuses for every drunk they drag in, no secrect there.

DUI is a big money maker for the government.

It's not about safety, if it was they would yank their licenses and throw them in jail.

Instead they ask for a legal bribe.

Sorry but I disagree, these big fines are what really make people worry about it.

I promise you if he had been a repeat offender, he would not have gotten a reduced sentence. Hopefully, he learned his lesson.

I think, like all crime, the punishment should be firing squad. No expensive trials, no juries obstructing justice and letting criminals go free

I agree he should have been taken to trial or plead guilty. No one forced him to do anything else. cops getting bonus is BS. Your friend got drunk and endangered others ;not just had a bad night. Drunks kill many more than war in this country every year.

So why is it ok for them to continue to drive as long as they pay up?

Government is basically saying, what you did was wrong, so pay us, but you can still drive.

BS, like most things in life and in politics, it's about money, simple and plain, it's usually about money

I agree with this. Drunks kill many innocent people. What ive learned is cops get an automatic 4 hour overtime payment for every drunk they drag in. Good deal I guess. It motivates the lazy cops to stay awake.

See I have a alternative.

If you kill someone you get a container with 100 pills. 5 of them are aspirin...the other 95 cyanide. You must take one for murder.

same for all crimes, with the ratio dependant on the crime.

Crimes to which no one is hurt are ridiculous.

I've long said that if someone drinks and drive, that should not be illegal. If they hit someone, or cause damage to property, they should be punished according to their crime. Run a 7 year old kid while drunk, death penalty.
