no-knock needs to go away, except in very dire, specific circumstances.
^ this.
No-knock should be the exception and not the norm.
It used to be that to get an OK for a no-knock, you had to present surveillance evidence - which required a warrant in its own right - proving that your target was a dangerous criminal. This guy only had two plants and wasn't dealing, selling guns, shaking people down, etc, and because of this, there was no evidence that they needed a no-knock. They just wanted to do it. It's a lot easier to get people to run their mouths when you take them 100% by surprise and they're afraid for their lives; you throw the guy around, cuff him, ransack his house, threaten his pregnant girlfriend, say that you'll destroy his life unless you tell him where you got the plants and who else you know who has weed because for all he knows, they will destroy his life; they already destroyed his home...
Hopefully, no more peoples' rights have to be trampled and there doesn't have to be a pile of dead cops for them to lay the hell off.
How do you know that? Were you there? Maybe you should have testified before the grand jury with your evidence. I wonder why the seven surviving cops did not testify or failed to convince the grand jury that they did in fact knock and attempt to serve the warrant?
Why would someone risk execution over two marijuana plants? The worst case in Texas if busted with two plants is two years in prison and a small fine. As far as the guy's criminal record? It is irrelevant to this case. All that matters is what happened at 6am on the morning if the shooting incident.
It all boils down to the fact that the cops are incompetent and use tactics that endanger peoples lives. There was no need in this case to conduct a home invasion on the suspected criminal. The guy was growing two pot plants for personal use. They could have detained him and served the warrant when he left the home and nobody would have been shot.
This. But I agree that I wouldn't waste time in an argument to the poster that you are pursuing. Ironically he/she doesn't live up to their CD name.

This past year or 2 hasn't been a good time for cops in the news.
This is a complicated one but in the end I agree with the jury. It's some pot. Knock on the door.

I have to agree with pknopp and Loveshiscountry on their posts. This was absolutely ridiculous overkill and a policeman died because of it.
Whoever was in charge of this 'raid' needs to be fired.
I absolutely support the principal of defending one's home and family and the whole 'no knock' thing was just stupid. Over pot plants.
My concern is that this won't lead to more politeness by officers - merely an increased level of force. Instead of sending an entry team through a door, maybe the next evolution in protocol will be to start the raid with incapacitation agents fired from well outside. Or to use a robot to enter and survey and "neutralize" any threats without risk to officers themselves.
Did the cops know he had only two plants when they kicked the door down?
Or did they just know he "had some marijuana", which could have been two plants or two hundred plants... or an easily flushable lid?
What difference would it make if he has 2 million plants. It's just weed!
All I know is that dude had better be getting out of Texas REAL fast. Some cop is going to ice his ass. If they don't manage to kill him, they'll plant drugs on him and get him sent away for the rest of his life. The cops aren't gonna take this lying down. No way.
It would help to be Arnold, or better yet Shaq with that. I think the BAR was mostly fired from prone, but good point about the need to anticipate that these thugs will have vests on. Gordon Liddy was flamed by the left for recommending head shots, but to my way of thinking, if you're a Jew facing a Gestapo, you do whatever it takes to kill that bast***.
