These places have been around quite a while. But the west coast cities have long since passed them.

In most cases we are only talking about 20-30 years, but even 100 years won't give you an advantage. Univ of Chicago is younger than Dartmouth, but is still ranked higher.

Cities tend to be liberal. When the red state urban areas get large enough, the states will turn blue. It's already happened in California, Colorado, and Virginia. Georgia, Arizona, and Texas are next.
