No, they are not. To be an American one must believe in the ideals of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Since Democrats are "anti-life, anti-liberty, and anti-pursuit of happiness" they are in fact anti-Americans, and not Americans at all. That may be the easiest way to get them back, but isn't going to happen. Because it's even easier to get votes by simply telling lies of their own. To get those people back they'd have to actually compete on the issues. It's easier to simply pander to your base with fearmongering about racists.
The people who tend to vote for Republicans are whites, men, and married women. The groups the Democrats don't pander towards. It's a pretty telling statistic in that the Democrats lose on the actual issues. The way they get votes is by using identity politics. And you see it here on CD forums too, where the liberals' responses are usually ad hominem attacks of various sorts rather than actual positions on issues, including the post I responded to.
