Then we shall simply have to disagree. But it's clear that the country is moving towards a more progressive, more equal society and there's simply nothing you or your brethren can do to change this reality. I imagine that must be a lonely position to be in, but there it is.
Some people choose to live their lives retrospectively, but I look to the future and I like what I see. Living in and clinging to the past is not a good place to be.
Yeah..where $90K a year qualifies you for social welfare programs and FPL is too poor to be even qualified as poor so they now start it at 133% of FPL.
Terribly sorry you feel this way, but if you think equality and progress are sick, then I think you need to reflect on your flawed beliefs. But you best hurry, as we are, sadly, I guess, leaving you behind.
There is no progress in the democrats agenda, only socialistic slavery. Once communism has a firm hold, you will be a slave. This is NOT America and it's promoted by ignorance such as yours..
A product of the modern education system.. Creeping socialism has crept way to far, and the good guys on the right will take America back and drag the ignorant socialists kicking and screaming. We will save you from yourselves...

Well my goal is not to belittle those with whom I have a different point of view, but to try and get them to look beyond their own ideology to see a different perspective. I too can see things from other peoples point of view if they can articulate it well and not try to demonetize those who differ with them. For instance your American Tali ban comment was meant to incite/degrade, but with most people it does you and your cause more harm that you probably realize.
As to the country moving more toward what you would like to see, can you give us a few examples?

When you have people, clearly a minority, still trying to ban books from public schools, and when certain states do everything they can to deny a woman's right to control her body (think Texas), and when one political party is utterly off their rails, and when you have people denying that the president was born in America, or people denying evolution, or people spouting off against proven climate science, I call that Taliban behavior.
I take the long view on progress. From desegregation to increasing equal-footing for women to gay equality, this country has moved in a progressive cadence, despite the roadblocks that were placed by the right wing.

And those are all talking points and propaganda fed to you by the press.
FWIW many people think Texas removed Darwin and evolution from the science books and we don't teach it in any of our public schools here in Texas.

No, these are opinions formed from being educated, being an engaged citizen and from life experiences. I don't (and never have) owned a television and I don't read DailyKos. Some people get their beliefs from listening to Mr. Limbaugh or watching that font of poison, Fox, but that's not me.
I'm a little surprised at your comment. I am (almost) 59, and I think America is quite a bit better than 'the old days'. My elderly mother (aged 86) also thinks the country is doing fine.
If one goes to DisneyWorld, for instance, you will see many families enjoying the park and each other. The world is not as bleak as you seem to think.
My nieces are young (ages 10 or so), and I think their future is exciting. Hardships? That is to be expected. It is part of life.
I will add that, as a lawyer, I think the Constitution is often being 'applied'. The problem is, of course, it is a rather vague document being applied to modern times. "Speech", for instance, is totally different from what the Framers thought it meant. Yet, the courts constantly look to the Constitution and try to interpret circumstances in light of its perceived meaning.
So the fact that you've seen families happy on their vacations means the world is all unicorn farts & rainbows ? Most people are happy when and IF they can happen to afford a vacation.
I would think a more reliable indicator of how this country is REALLY doing would be to observe the working class ( you know, the majority of us) during their day to day lives. I suspect you move in a rarified world where the real ugliness & hardships don't touch you.
As to what your 86 year old mother thinks, yeh right... like any member of the working class is going to take what an obviously well off retired senior citizen thinks. How much of the ugly harshness of the world actually touches her, or others of her demographic ? Seriously !
