This is something that the poster Happy Texan talks about all the time.....the U.S. goes in with guns, China goes in with trade agreements and commerce.

I don't know when Americans will get it through their thick skulls that militarism is a failure at this point and time in the world's history.

Save us from ourselves.

The foreign policy in the middle east is nothing more then a complete BAD foreign policy for the last 50 years under both parties of the united states.

We support Saddam as did other countries when trying to kill the Soviets and gave him weapons and the continued battle with IRAN. The "oil rich country" was another place for American interests and other counties we didn't want to have control of the oil with. So we let crazy murders with our money and weapons continue to keep the peace in the country Saddam ruled. This is the same with most other countries and in the end it comes down to OIL and resource and military base locations. We have several solutions and or problems that need some serious discussion in this country.

1. We can't seem to mind our own business.
2. Other countries can't mind their own business that includes Russia and China and cause other problems that make us fight the internal policy issue of minding our own business.
3. We do not have good reasons to go to war and when we do we don't have a plan to win it and leave.
4. Super power does not mean empire and it doesn't mean you have responsibilities to anything or anyone other then ourselves. (Somewhere this crazy world policeman idea started and has continued for the illusions and grand egos of powerful men and women)
5. A Good defense doesn't mean you need to do anything other then carry a BIG stick and use it when you are ACTUALLY threaten and targeted.

Confucius says "Never use the gun unless you have to."

You may also say "Save your bullets for the real hard times."

The Right removes dictators out of materialism, the Left does it out of idealism.

Just kidding.

Oh wait we never asked for that... And the Iraqis actually signed lucrative oil contracts with China, our marginal enemy.

Hmm..

Maybe Iraq was about cleaning up the mess that began 12 years earlier with Saddam's invasion and stabilizing the world oil market, not just "stealing oil".

The word is neither "stealing" nor "stabilizing," just "controlling."

Remember, America lost control over Venezuela's oil so it may have been necessary to control Iraqi oil. Having the control of oil, you control the price.

It was also motivated by "intimidation" and "corruption."
