That sensible gun regulation can allow people to both have weapons and protect the public?
Keep guns out of crazy people hands reduces spree killings? WOW - that takes a huge leap of thought!!!!!!!
Here is Switzerland's operating model:
1) The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 30 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training.
2)In order to purchase most weapons, the purchaser most obtain a weapon acquisition permit (Waffenerwerbsschein), in accordance with Article 8 of Act. Swiss citizens over the age of 18 who are not psychiatrically disqualified nor identified as posing security problems, and who have a clean criminal record can request such a permit.
3)without a permit you can only buy
---Single-shot and multi-barreled rifles for hunting and sport purposes (Article 10), such as bolt-action, muzzle-loading, or breech-loading rifles;
----Antique firearms manufactured before 1870 and bladed weapons manufactured before 1900 (Article 2);
-----Swiss Army knives (Article 4, section 6).
4) not so open carry - To carry a loaded firearm in public or outdoors (and for an individual who is a member of the militia carrying a firearm other than his Army-issue personal weapons off-duty), a person must have a Waffentragbewilligung (gun carrying permit), which in most cases is issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security
5) even with these very sensible regulations, Switzerland's gun homicide rate is higher than neighboring countries
In the cupboard, yes. That's a good place for it. Like the Swiss, I am much in favor of rifles staying in the cupboard, when not being transported to and from the range. Notice how they're not talking about rifles in Quizno's or handguns in the Home Depot parking lot?
(Has anyone ever noticed that when the Swiss talk about their rifle culture, it's always about defending "us", "our country", "our cities"? Whereas the US gun fans tend to talk about "me", "my property", "my cache of supplies"? The Swiss prepare to rally to take up arms in defense of their country. The USers talk about good bug-out places to ride it out when the SHTF.)

What are you talking about? The gun culture in America is very strong about protecting this nation as well as protecting ones self. The gun grabbers get all butt hurt when you even bring this up, just like you did in your first paragraph.
Yes, I have guns to protect MY family and MY property.
If you don't want a gun to protect yours, that is fine with me.
