Why shouldn't we have it in the US? It would make this country much more prosperous. The Nordic Model is the best example of a mixed economy thus far. Why Americans oppose it? I have no idea.
It is a much smaller nation than America. There is a lot less infrastructure.
Their population is positively microscopic compared to America.
They do not have tens of thousands of illegal immigrants coming in every year.
They have a nationalized oil industry subsidizing their government.
Their population is homogenous.
Their economy is much less diversified.
Those are the reasons their model would not work in America. It's not a matter of the Nordic model being good or bad. That's a whole other discussion. It's a matter of it being a practical impossibility to run a huge, highly populated, and diverse nation with the same policies that work in a tiny, tight-knit country with few people.
It's the same thing as saying if you can do addition in your head then why can't you solve quadratic equations in your head. There are just too many factors, variables, and operations required.
Too many white people. Sounds atrocious, where's the vibrancy and diversity? Can't these blond haired blued eyed devils use some education from *anyone not white* other people?
I'm mostly a Scandinavian descendant, and remember how well received my children were when we lived in "diverse" Baltimore. Great to hear the black Dad, announce when my two blonde haired blue eyed boys showed up to play basketball, exclaim "The Aryan Nation is Here!" got a good chuckle out of that one.
Yep, Norway and the US, just about the same. Can't figure out why it would not work here. Puzzling.

America has a state that compares very well with Scandinavia in all respects even climate. It even has a lot of Scandinavians who traveled thousands of miles to be there! It is the great state of Minnesota!

What does scale have to do with it? Tons of small countries are impoverished. Not to mention that the US is a huge country, yet has a standard of living much higher than most countries.

A welfare state could only be exclusive to citizens. Illegals are already blocked from most if not all public assistance as it is already.

You have yet provided an argument as to why the model in question can't work in a large country.

Finland, especially in males, and Denmark, especially in females, and lower in Norway and Iceland, with Sweden in a middle position. The statistics are found to be comparable. I said basically identical. They do have higher rates, but our rate is basically identical. Finland is the only real outlier.
