After your military service, you convert to a kind of National Guard like set up. Your unit meets up once per year for a couple of weeks to stay in practive.
Switzerland's goal is to mobilize its army in 24 hours so citizen soldiers keep their weapons locked up at home. They are not toting them around wherever they go.
look at the pics I posted. Those are supposedly Switzerland. If it isn't where is it?
I am all in favor of emulating Swiss gun laws and gun culture. The NRA would go absolutely nuts, though.
Yes, it would be liberal gun laws on steroids. Concealed carry is practically impossible, and although men are required to have their military rifle at their homes, they are NOT given ammunition for it.
It is my understanding that those Swiss are in the military reserves and drill regularly.
They do, but that is the only time you see them carrying their weapons, guess what you will not see there, handguns. People should really be more careful when deciding which examples they wish to use as examples to prove their point.

Don't care.
I have been to Switzerland numerous times. I have good friends there including a fella who, like all Swiss men, was in the army until his 40s or so.
Yes, he had a Glock. But he kept it locked up and unloaded.
Besides cops and soldiers on manuevers (lots of them), I have never seen anyone carrying so much as a .22.
It is certainly a bit more permissive than let's say England, but it ain't no Texas or South Carolina.
