You're well indoctrinated. First off, it wasn't the taxes. It was the crown imposing new and more taxes upon the colonies without any representation in the government.
If you're referring to the Boston Tea Party, the Tea Act actually lowered taxes.
No, in the post of your's i quoted, you originally posted "Even msnbc made an issue out of it" but you changed it in a minute to "Even the Dems acknowledge......"
I see you even edited that portion.
It was a futile attempt at humor.
I should have known better.
I'll not make that mistake again
Seems everyone shows up here with a set of brass knuckles and looking to fight.
How many of those kids really care and did not do this just to get out of school?
You seriously think that high school students are incapable of genuinely caring about whether their high school diplomas are adequate preparation for college entrance? You seriously think that high school students are incapable of caring about local politics?

I participated in walkout protests in high school and no one ever cared about the cause; all we cared about was getting out of class.
Most high schoolers do not care about local politics or these issues, nor do they really know much abut them. Like many posters here who think this is exclusively a local issue.
The College Board writes the AP curriculum for the entire country. This is about changes to the AP history curriculum for a ll schools. Your daughters' experience is what the conservatives want to go back to.
The JeffCo board wants to micro-manage the curriculum which could negate the standards that make it AP History.
Interestingly enough, the driving force behind this has admitted that she actually has no idea what is being taught in AP History in her district. What she does know, is that she has a platform by which she thinks she is going to impose her own ideology on these students.
This is the underlying context:
"Last week, at the board’s regular meeting, a citizen pointed out that Williams had sent out an email to her friends saying that she needed people to be part of the committee. One of those friends — clearly understanding the unwritten language in Williams’ message — sent out another email urging Christians and conservatives to apply for the committee because “We must have more conservative members on this committee than progressives and liberals. Please help Julie fill the committee with godly people.”"

Well, what can I say. I went to a very ordinary suburban high school in the early 60s, and we most certainly did care about these things. Too early for walkouts, but there were plenty of lunch time gatherings in the quad where political/social/curriculum arguments were thoroughly aired.
Looking back, we were often hampered by incomplete facts and perspectives, but there is no disputing that many of us, especially the college-bound, genuinely cared.

What were high schoolers of the 60's discussing on the political and social spectrum?

Most likely how hard it was to kiss your ass goodbye when they had the "duck and cover" drills.
Remember? You were supposed to get under your desk, put your head between your legs as far as you can and kiss your ass goodbye.
They were probably discussing what a miserable planet the adults had created with 20 thousand 5 megaton nuclear warheads ready to go off at any second.
fortunately for us, they grew up and changed the whole dynamics of nuclear war and made it an unacceptable alternative.
