Should the United States pass a law for 35 hour workweek (from current 40) and then require overtime pay if it goes beyond 35 hour? I think 7 hours of labor is enough for 21st century. It has worked well is many countries such as in France.

If I'm a large company I hire more people and you get your 35 hours pay instead of 40. If I'm a small business perhaps I can't justify the cost of overtime nor can I justify hiring someone else, you make less and so do I.

Is there really such a thing as a 40 hour workweek anymore? For a lot of Americans it's now a 29 hour workweek.

Just to add, perhaps I'll cut your hours to 25 and give the new hire 25....
