I don't understand that argument. How would it violate the Constitution? Passports do not do so.
They can make it voluntary, but the federal government does not have the constitutional authority to compel or require any form of national identification. Remember, if the power is not specifically granted to the federal government, then that power is reserved to the States and/or the people, respectively.
Isn't a social security number a form of national id?
It could be construed as one now that they are issuing them upon birth, but that was not always the case. I did not get a Social Security number until I started working at age 14.

Well now everyone gets their social security number at birth or when they become citizens of this country. That doesn't seem to violate the Constitution, so not sure why you would think a National ID would do that as well...heck, where in the Constitution does it say that would be a violation?
Here is a question for you, how do states prevent people from voting in more than one state if there is no National ID?
Thats why early voting shouldnt be allowed. Much harder to vote in multiple states if everyone has to vote in one day. Or we could do like the iraqis and dip people's fingers in purple ink.

Yeah, fat chance kiddo, you would have to ban all mail in voting to do that. Basically you would be wanting to limit one's ability to vote which would reduce the voter turn out and put more pressure on our Liberty.
If these "poor" people work, they need to have an ID. If these "poor" people are on public assistance, they need an ID. Problem solved- they already have one. And you yourself are stating in your post, "Just because something is easy for middle class white people doesn't mean it's easy for everyone."
That in itself is a racist statement! LOL[/quote]
You can just read the article and see exactly why some people might not have ID, but I guess that's too difficult for you. Also LOL at whitey not knowing what racism is.

It is a national registration, but rarely used as an ID card because they have no picture to "identify" from. This is why a SS card is usually part of two forms of ID required.

A racist defining racism... how steriotypical of you.
