He doesn't have to be seriously injured. You attack a cop, there's a good chance you may be shot. Get shot, run from the cop and then turn around and come at him again, you're surely going to be shot dead.
If everyone who tussled with a cop, or resisted arrested, was shot to death, there would be several deaths a day in the U.S. from this.
He tussled with the cop---we know that the Wilson reversed his car to stop the teens and that Wilson's friend claims that the teen were then effectively pinned down. The cop in effect started the altercation by being overly aggressive. Why did Wilson act so aggressively? Over jay-walking and a box of cigarellos.
