Glock 19? Was that the model? Compact 9 mm. Striker fired (meaning the gun is partially cocked with a round in the chamber). Light trigger pull (around 5 pounds). No manual safety. Not a gun to be carried loose in a purse.
Apparently the purse was made specifically for concealed carry. And she had taken safety classes.
Actually, she was born and raised in Hayden, the city where she died. Her death was tragic in a lot of ways. She was a brilliant scholar and became a nuclear scientist, and was happily married, living in southern Idaho with her husband and her son, working in a good job. They had returned to her parent's home to celebrate the holidays.
A young lady who was anything but stupid. She was killed when her 2 year old son, who was sitting in a shopping cart, noticed her pistol in her purse and pulled it out. One shot and she was gone.
How many mothers put their babies in a shopping cart with their purses? Just about all of them at one time or another.
I'm not about to deny anyone their 2nd amendment rights. It's just a sad thing, and it shows how easily a very common everyday thing can become instantly lethal when a gun is around. I don't care if someone wants to pack a concealed weapon, but guns are dangerous, period, and more incidents like this are bound to happen.
She was forced to make a difficult choice. One, she could gamble on going into the Hayden Walmart unarmed (or at least with no round in the chamber). Probably very few would be willing to run that kind of risk.
Alternatively, there was the very small chance of being accidentally shot by her 2 year old or some other person who grabbed the gun out of her purse and discharged it, which is unlikely.
There is danger no matter which way you go, but you have to weigh the options.
That was not a freak accident. That was a dumb ass that had a gun without a safety, in an unattended purse, and an unattended toddler who knew it was there.
We have border patrol agents being shot from across the border, where is the concern here??
Guns are not the problem......the only one paying the price here is the family. When border agents get killed by drug cartel this is harming all of us!
You're talking about border guards being intentionally shot, I assume. Obviously that is terrible.
However, I was referring to the cases where somebody is unintentionally shot. In this Idaho situation the harm is to the immediate family, but too often innocent people are injured or killed. See my post above for some recent examples.
People need a license to drive yet we have accidents every day. However, anti gun moonbats seem to suggest that gun licensing will cut down on accidents. Go figure.....
And imagine how much worse driving would be if no one was required to get a license to do it.
Why do you anti gunners cherry pick stories like this and say see see see...more guns laws....that's what we need.....
Good question, why do gun nuts cherry pick stories and say see see see, this is why I need a gun in my hand at all times.
