I am either a moderat republican or blue dog democrat but that don't stop the liberal word being used on me as an ad hominem attack. It seems anything not tea party or libertarian is liberal.

Well my friend, as a libertarian, I've been referred to as a really being liberal, and by liberals a republican in disguise.
Not trying to start a (perhaps inevitable) flame war, just genuinely curious. It seems the posters and threads here lean moderately to extremely conservative. I've always considered myself a moderate liberal, but after reviewing some threads here, I'm fairly certain I'd be pegged as far-left. I'm in favor of gay marriage, abortion, diversity, marijuana legalization, stem cell research, affirmative action, the recent police accountability movement, Obama, etc. If this makes me far left, so be it, but I would love to engage in intelligent discussions on here without resorting to name calling. Is this even possible in this political climate?
So, are you a liberal? If so, care to espouse some of your positions?
I will espouse my positions in the words of our greatest liberal Prime Minister PET.
"Towards a more just society". If any position supports this then I'm in favour. If any position does not support the concept than I'm opposed.

With the way they are with Ron Paul, his son Rand and other "libertarian" republicans in the tea party, I entirely understand the democrat calling you republicans in disguise. You can't deny the overlap between republicans who claim to be tea party and the libertarian principals and influences.

Ron Paul IMO is more of a libertarian than his son, which is why I'm not sold on Rand. At any rate, I don't vote for either party.
I'd say I'm a liberal. Don't confuse that with me saying 'I'm a Democrat.' I'm not. I find allegiance to a party to be a distraction from completely open thinking. I see good in both the Democrats and Republicans, though when I look at them, I'm mostly just overwhelmed by how corrupt they actually are. More or less, they're two factions fighting for the same goal; getting re-elected and making money. Ideologically, they're not even that different. They say they are, but I don't see it.
Republicans oppose government control of healthcare, Democrats support it. Republicans oppose public sector unions, Democrats support them. Republicans oppose freely available late term abortion, Democrats support it. Republicans support firearm ownership rights, Democrats oppose them. Republicans support school choice and local control of schools, Democrats support mandatory government schools with a federally controlled curriculum. Republicans support lower taxes as a means of stimulating economic activity, Democrats support increased government spending as a means of stimulating economic activity. Republicans support Israel, Democrats support Palestinians. Republicans support a strong war on terror, Democrats support appeasing terrorists and hoping they will go away. Republicans support freedom of speech, Democrats support enforcing political correctness. Republicans support exploiting domestic sources of energy, Democrats oppose it.
The differences between Republicans and Democrats are enormous.

Yep, going to need popcorn for the response to this one!

Well maybe I am liberal based on the results of the political compass spectrum quiz even though in a presidential election I never voted for a democrat president.
With poll numbers like these, it's imperative society tosses aside the political correctness and finally comes to terms that Liberalism is not just a personal view of the world but a true mental disorder, that causes total detachment from reality among many other symptoms. This disorder needs to be recognized with an official name and a foundation created to search for treatments and a cure. Nancy Pelosi would be a perfect candidate as a poster child for the research foundation, as she apparently suffers from one of the most severe forms of this horrible disorder. Affected individuals can easily be determined by just a brief conversation. A word of warning, These individuals can turn very rude and hostile if confronted with truth, logic or anything contrary to their views, if this occurs, just smile and walk away knowing in your heart you have just met a poor soul who suffers from this very common disability and find comfort in the fact you can't debate a fool...
Why not make the case for why they are wrong (which is usually pretty easy to do), instead of using tired, meaningless phrases.
