US ranks worst, France best for focus on preventable deaths (salaries, drug)

Thanks for posting this Katz...and France has a socialist system does it not?
Not saying we have to do the same, but it would be refreshing if people would be able to wrap their minds around the fact that our health care system is not the best in the world as some politicians still try to claim, but is far from it. Health care reform should be one of the top issues for this election cycle.

yes, the french system is a socialist system. It is funded by workers salaries, taxes on alcohol and cigarettes and other taxes. People are free to chose their own doctors, too!
It is very highly rated and I'd be happy witht that system
One thing is for sure, we need some type of change to the US health care system.... one that will benefit the people, not the drug and insurance companies.
you know something is wrong when health insurance agencies make billions in profit...not even corrupt French politicians can achieve that. All together a universal health care plan is less costly to the public even though they increase the tax. Oh no, let's not forget....scary socialists....we dont wanna be like the big bad soviet union.
The system may be termed "socialist" but like most European countries with universal healthcare the government is right wing ( in France for 12 years) ...
So even right-wing politicians in Europe believe in Universal healthcare and nobody would dare and touch it or do away with it.
There would be a revolution on the streets.
I think Europeans just feel health should not be a luxury but is a basic human right and IMO they are absolutely right.
Good to highlight how politics and political parties in Western Europe don't divide themselves on issues of quality of life but rather are united.
Having experienced the French, Dutch, Italian and British systems of health care, in small and large degrees, I'd say one of the strong points is their emphasis on prevention. And fewer meds, for medicine sake!

Hmmm. Speaking of preventable deaths, I guess no one remembers the heat wave which killed thousands of senior citizens in France in the summer of 2003 when the entire country went on vacation. An atrocity like this would have horrified Americans....
