Are the Republicans getting carried away with the Israeli ass kissing in attempt to split the Jewish vote from the Democrats?
The Jewish vote significantly favors the Democrats. Personally, as a Jew, I find Netanyahu to be offensive, and a war monger. God's not going to take my Jew card for saying so. I know many, many Jews who agree with me-- because above a commitment to Israel, Jews have a commitment to social justice for all peoples. I support the negotiations with Iran, because the alternative is war. I don't support continuing to build settlements in the disputed territories, because it's provocation and prolongs the existing cold war... and fans the flames.
I know some of the usual nuts on here are going to proclaim me a "bad Jew" for not putting Israel first, but, I'm an American Jew-- and you're probably not.
I think this is going to back fire on the Republicans as usual. The only Jews I know who support Netanyahu in the US are either Orthodox or over 70-- The reset of us, not so much.
There are a lot of evangelical Christians in the US who view Isreal as the Isreal of the Book of Revelation. As a result they will support Isreal. Some Congressional Republicans are among this number, and many more depend on their votes for reelection.
And I am among them. I support Israel. I have been there several times. And just like the majority of the Israeli public, I'm no fan of Netanyahu and won't support his policies that lead to war.
You can love Israel and detest Netanyahu. Many do.

The issue is, "Do you spit on your friends and make nice with people who want to annihilate you?" That they are Jewish is secondary.
I am a Christian. I strongly support Israel. Since Israel is a democracy, I don't understand why one would have to support everything Bibi does to support Israel. It would be the same as meaning supporting the United States means you support Obama. (No wait - to the wingnuts, it would be opposing everything Obama supports. Whatever.)
America doesn't have a military treaty with Israel and we have no business getting involved in its affairs. There is no strategic or economic gain that can be made from more war in the Middle East. We should pull our aid and support from Israel and let them negotiate on the strength of their own position, not America's.
If the United States has the right to target ISIS leaders for assassination, as Obama says we do, and the right to cross over into Iraq and Syria, again as Obama says we do, and ISIS has no right to have sanctuary anywhere in the world, then clearly Bibi has the same right when it comes to protecting Israel against Hamas.
By the way, how did Obama's support for that Arab Spring deal turn out?
I guess if you don't subscribe to the Conservative fear machine, you're not as worried about being annihilated.
I suspect those that live in Connecticut rarely worry about annihilation OR rockets being lobbed on them at any given moment. Probably not many Suicide bombers wandering the neighborhoods either.
On the other hand - Swasitka Painting is on the rise in the USA and could come to your neighborhood at any time. The anti-Israel rhetoric often translates into anti-Jew ideology and there is a lot of that rhetoric floating around these days. I guess you know all about that.
