Fascinating comments from one who aspires to be president.

Carson sounds like a Christian version of a radical Islamist cleric blaming all ills on "the Great Satan".

That's an interesting interpretation of reality.

I'm a white active Tea Party guy who likes hip-hop. Like any genre you will find garbage on the low end to true art on the high end, with everything in between.

Wu-Tang and Nas alone can carry the medium pretty damned far on their own. But, I'm biased towards east coast.

Ben Carson would make a great Secretary of Health and Human Services, but not POTUS.

He speaks the truth....I like a lot of hip-hop but I don't think it's been a positive influence on the black community. It glamorizes violence, consumerism, and sex. I miss the 80's hip-hop---generally upbeat, funny and self-deprecating.

I'm a white, right of center libertarian and listen to my share of hip hop! Though it is more of the old school stuff, as most of today's rap is garbage!

I will say that Hop Hip does have a strong influence on the young Black youth. Even when it comes to fashion. In the 90's, many rappers helped push the "baggy jeans" fashion trend that many young Blacks emulated and the sports jersey era of the early 2000's. "Mainstream" Hip-Hop has also helped in normalizing "thug culture" in the Black community and frown upon being smart and educated because you will be considered a "lame" or a "nerd". "Mainstream" Hip-Hop certainly isn't the only reason for the deterioration of Black community but it has certainly been a contributor. There's no denying that.

How many "Lil Wayne" wannabe's have you seen while strolling through urban areas? In the subway? At the liquor store? TONS! That, of course, is just one of the many examples of nobodies dreaming of being somebody and hoping that a magical record deal shows up to capture their inability to actually spit a rhyme.

If nothing else, the preponderance of hip-hop wannabe's demonstrates why black men need to marry their baby mama's so they can be around when it's time to jerk a knot in their sons who have ZERO chance at becoming a hip hop star and waste the most productive years of their lives trying for something that will NEVER come to reality.

The tragic thing about the whole "pants on the ground" and "tattoed" generation is they have segregated themselves from mainstream society before they're old enough to legally have a beer. No one in their right mind will hire them. I think to myself every night standing at the bus stop, "what are these kids going to do with their lives?"

I see a lot of complaints how much of the black community is lagging whites and Asians----but a lot of them have no one to blame but themselves.
