Why are we only focusing our PC on "black" people, why not "white" people? What is a "white" person? If we are going to call black people African American even though they have no African cultural, why not call white people English or Irish or German or Polish or whatever "new" or "old" immigrant country they cam from American?

As a matter of fact since all people originally came from African, why don't we call everyone African American, why just black people?

When do we draw the line of African American people in the U.S.? 400 years removed or 10,000 years removed?

What do you want to be called "white" people? I have never seen a white person before? I have seen some "black" people before, but never a "white" person.

I'm going to start calling all "white" people European Americans...... I think they should be reminded where they are from as well as Asian Americans, Mexican Americans, and African African Americans......... You never here Armenian American, Italian American, Russian American, German American......so European American is appropriate no?

I can only speak for myself, but I was raised as an American with some regard but not total absorption into my ancestry. That is much more important to me than what country my ancestors came from.
I am half German (both my grandmothers were full-blooded German), 1/4 British (through my mom's dad) and 1/4 Italian (through my dad's dad, whose dad came straight off the boat as it were). My dad's dad and his family were all full-blooded Italian in previous generations, and they are really into the Italian stuff. My mom is not Italian, and we just weren't raised with a lot of old-world traditions. I don't think my upbringing was worse off in any way for it.

I never call somebody African American unless they were born in Africa and now live in the USA. Black and African American are two different descriptions.

Because there is no point.

I would say because the vast majority of White people don't know (or really care) without doing a time consuming search of records that are most likely still only on paper. Second I say you would have a very hard time finding any White person native to the USA who has a pure lineage back to a single country.

IMO, the only people who might be fitting of having "American" suffix would be the Native Americans. And that is only because they were incorrectly labeled "Indians" by the Spanish who thought they were in India instead of a new continent.

Have German, Polish, and Slovak roots, but since I was born here, as were my parents and grandparents, I call myself an American. In fact, since I was born here I will sometimes refer to myself as Native American. And why not? I was born here, not over there.

Agreed and that is the point of this thread. Why don't we apply this to white people? Maybe because they feel they don't have to distinguished themselves or maybe they feel that they are the TRUE Americans.....

Why is that we have to do it with black people?

As a mixed German/Irish/Hawaiian/Japanese, I honestly believe American culture is created by white people and black people. Other cultures are subcultures. Like it or not, it is what it is.

I believe in one dominating culture, and for others, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

This is not to say that minorities should be treated as second class citizens, no. I think some elements in subcultures are superior, but it is irrelevant.

One dominating culture defines a country. cultural change can be very dangerous.
