Blacks have always been a part of our American culture and they speak English. They aren't foreigners to our country.
I couldn't agree more. But the following statement blows my mind. I have no idea what she's thinking!

I haven't claiming that at all. I've been saying that the Hispanic American culture exists because of the number of Hispanics that settled in Mexico prior to Texas's departure from Mexico. It's important to note that the Hispanic American culture, is an American culture... just like the colonial American culture of the Northeast is an American culture.
But we aren't noted for being a Hispanic country in identity, culturally. The influence is mostly occurring via massive illegal immigration from south of our border the past couple of decades.
It appears that you need to look up what assimilation means in the dictionary. Your statement is not coherent. I've never seen blacks complain about assimilation.
I don't understand how mtl1 could possibly claim that black people "cannot" assimilate.
You should see other neighborhoods, maybe in Detroit, Chicago or Baltimore. Black people 'can' fully assimilate, funny thing is many of them that do are more recent immigrants. Many others probably a majority purposely choose to be an adversarial group and be a part of the grievance industry. They make themselves an out-group. An extra special protected group is not assimilation in my view.

You're right in that we aren't noted for being a Hispanic country in identity or culture. W'ere noted as being a multicultural melting pot in which the Hispanic culture is one of many.
In Texas, surely the Hispanic culture stands out but that isn't the case all over the U.S. I was just in NYC with a friend visiting from Switzerland (he's originally from Germany) and from the identity of America to outsiders is that we're a mash-up of different people from all over the world. His favorite part of the trip was the ability to interact with so many cultures throughout each day. And NYC isn't like Texas as there is a mix of everything there. This is generally true in many parts of the nation.
The real problem here, however, is not the various cultures.. Hispanic or otherwise. The real problem is illegal immigration. That's what needs to be addressed.

You can thank people like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson for that. Add our POTUS to that list.

Not just our current POTUS, but the previous one, and the one before that, and so on....
They are still assimilated, however.
