While I am on this rant, it's amusing how many people bring forms to doctors to certify that the patient has a learning disability and can't take the test for US citizenship in English. Seriously? Do most doctors have experience in diagnosing learning disabilities? That requires special testing. Patients are furious when referred for testing.

Maybe because there was NO reason to change out the Spanish names when we took over those places. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Many American Indian tribes played well with others. Specifically in the areas of Dutch settlement in the NJ/PA/MD area where there were sophisticated treaties between the tribes and were more or less non-violent. Compare this to other parts of the nation where there was a lot of blood spilled.

You bring up a good point. More people who don't like it here should find other countries to live in.

You wouldn't. Just like you wouldn't change the established culture of a city.

That's a reach Mr. lawyer. Many children born of Mexican immigrants here in El Paso don't even speak Spanish because their parents wanted them to be Americans.

Which is not changing the culture, but evolving it. But that goes back to what I said earlier. Immigrants learn English over time and generally do assimilate. It takes 2-3 generations, but it happens almost every time.

I don't deal with immigration for the most part. But on occasion I am involved in interpreting the Constitution for immigration-related issues.
Then you should know that around 1845 when the Republic of Texas became a US state there were only about 9,000 Mexicans in the state. Most Mexicans in Texas today snuck in after it became a US state.
