The point of a debate should NOT be to spend HALF of a 3 hour debate discussing just how stupid Trump's comments are or aren't followed by ad hominen attacks.
Well, they were able to present their views while responding to challenges made by other candidates.

They started by giving Trump too much air time, but later limited his participation, which was a good thing.

Electing a president is a serious matter and Trump is a distraction.

Narcissists don't make good politicians and leaders. This is clear. This eliminates a bunch. Then pick the most qualified leader with the most objectively sound principles that represent the inherent quality of being American. There was some intelligent discourse by mature adults last night. You may not see that at the next debate.

How much of Trump's air time was "rebuttal" time because I didn't think he got many original questions, they just wanted to make him fight.

Besides, Fiorina stole all of his positions and just re-presented them as her own...and no one noticed. She must think she can get his voters if she just takes over his positions and re-presents them in a more refined sourpuss manner.

I think Chris Christie came off the best and the two senators Cruz and Rubio (but not Paul), sounded like they were making speeches on the Senate floor. Phony. Cruz's performance in the debates is disappointing. It's not his positions that disappoint me it's just the phony way he presents himself. If I didn't know who the candidates were, I could pick out the guys in the Senate. No one asked Rand Paul if he regretted supporting McConnell.

Ben Carson was Ben Carson. I still think he's too nice to be President and his hesitant style of speaking, which is just the way he happens to speak, is going to hold him back. It makes him sound too tentative.

Neither Bush nor Rubio convinced me they're telling the truth about border security coming first but I think Bush's performance improved on the debate stage but not enough for me to vote for him.

Aside from being off my list, I don't think any of them performed poorly enough to leave the race in either debate.

This was no debate, and Tapper interrupting every 5 seconds was annoying, as was candidates' forced to scream, "Jake...Jake!" with their hands up as if they were asking permission to go to a grade school lavatory.

If Tapper's role was to facilitate, he failed miserably. And interrupting what could have been a substantive discussion about Social Security to accommodate a climate change question via [gasp!] social media was typical Tapper.

Hey, that's what I was doing. Jake! Jake! Where are all of those commercials you guys charged so much for because I need a break?

And, they weren't long enough, either.

Bush. This guy's brother was the worst president in history, yet he defends him since he represents a younger, wimpier version of the same thing. Scary to see this big lummox pretending to be presidential material. His views are atrocious. Typical Bush. Dubya II.

Rubio. He sounds plastic, contrived, fake, rehearsed, and completely out of touch. He looks and sounds like he has about as much wisdom as an 11 year old.

Trump. He continues his vague fast-talk as the worlds most overrated orangutan. He's eager to make deals, where the U.S. gets everything and others get nothing. He wants to make America great again, without realizing that such is NOT the case as long as bigots are running the country. The man is as delusional as self-mutilating New Ager who believes that you can change the molecular structure of water simply by applying loving emotion to it.

Cruz. A blabbering idiot and a Bill Murray lookalike. He stands about as much chance as Bill Murray too, which he is keenly aware of. He has no business being seen in public.

Paul. Plagiarist. Racist. Being stupid won't kill you, but it sure will make you sweat. Paul looks like he's been doing a great deal of sweating lately, as his stock continues to plummet. Like his father, he's a loser. Everybody seems to know this but him.

Fiorina. She's only slightly more credible than Michelle Bachmann, even with an atrocious record as a CEO. She can't run companies, so what makes her think she can run the country? She's bigoted and out of touch, like the typical Republican. She's slender, attractive, has nice legs, and a polished presentation, but her party is on the wrong side of every political argument, especially when it comes to women's rights. She's not a white male either, and the GOP loves, honors, promotes, and prefers to be represented by white males.

The rest don't matter. Frankly, these suspects have a difficult task and they each failed miserably. They have to convince their Conservative constituents, that they each are better than the others, without criticizing the others too much, even when they themselves represent a party which has done nothing positive for this country in over 20 years. The party does NOT have a record to run on, so all they can do is give us the same GOP talking points. They all are pathetic.
Because these things are important.

Both also use the gender card and act or at least come off to me like extreme feminists.

No Thanks!

Those two to me are just "women" , now if there was a LADY candidate in the likes of Margaret Thatcher........................ who I hope she is uttering the name Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrronald in heaven.

Big loser - CNN (they lost control and it was way too long)
Winners: Rubio, Fiorina, Christie, Trump (in no particular order)
Holding steady: Bush, Kasich and maybe Paul.

This "debate" was all about The Donald (44% of the questions on Trump & 19% of the airtime) and it started right out of the box with the really stupid question about trusting Trump with the Nuclear Codes. Will they ask that of Clinton or Sanders?? Of course not. CNN's plan was to start a Big Food Fight and they accomplished that - the after the show interview with the Moderator revealed that was their intention and the actually coached the Candidates to "interrupt each other" and battle it out. That is Entertainment to a lot of people, but I much prefer to hear some substance on REAL issues and not a slug fest.

Trump is about Trump and a lot of Chest Beating - I have no doubt that he would be a strong leader. Fiorina is sharp, knows her facts - but can't seem to find a smile. She is very, very focused. Christie is all about Law & Order (I like that because we have become Lawless in this country & the corruption is out of control). Rubio has the firmest grip on Foreign Policy and perhaps Legislative issues, but I doubt people care. I don't see how Bush has any chance - his name is BUSH and he can't get around that. Rand Paul is going to do no better than his Dad and has the same constituency (drugs & isolationism). I keep waiting for Kasich to say something (anything!) about something other than "I wrote a budget". Paul & Huckabee have a very narrow constituency that will keep them in a while longer. I think Walker is done. Carson did as well as I expected, which was not very well. He is in over his head and Nobody can come up with any vision of Carson dealing with the Thugs in Congress, Thugs like Assad, Putin and Iran or the Criminal Thugs in this country. He is very nice and very quiet - closing his eyes is just wierd.

The entire CNN premise was to set up Trump and he did pretty well at avoiding the the traps. He says what people want to hear and it's all Bumper Sticker stuff. Rubio, Fiorino, Bush and Christie managed to squeeze in some substance - BUT the public is just not interested. Obama brought us the American Idol type of President and Facts/Substance are now considered "stiff & scripted". CNN gave the crowds what they want - pure Entertainment.

At some point before the 2016 election ..... maybe folks will wake up and understand what trouble this country is in.
I'm not sure I have any "hope" left that we will get serious about it.

It is a question that I and others continually asked and thought about Trump because Trump is a bit of a hothead and that is a known fact. Just watch his meltdowns with Megan Kelly for example. It is like asking the question of Kim Davis to Huckabee. It is a known position and a known support. I can see Sanders being asked about being a socialist because it is a stance that most people think of him. That is all CNN and Fox did during their debates.

last thing, Why FIORINA pulled out the gender card? she pulled a Hillary......Trump made a comment about her NOT all WOMEN in general. If Fiorina can't handle that comment by Trump that she needs to pull the gender card then she is in the wrong party and she can't be president because most of the world leaders especially in Arab Countries dislike women in power and they will say nasty things about her everydayin public and behind her back......who cares?
Just admit, you got the hots for Trump. Fiorina didn't pull a Hillary and instead went after Trump's track record where he attacks women pretty regularly. Trump is a blithering sexist.

Just admit it, you got the hots for Trump and think even Fox tried to marginalize him...
