A large number of people in the 18th century still had to have guns to feed themselves. Another sizable proportion needed them for protection as they expanded the country westward.

There is no way a single founder would have ever argued to restrict guns from the people.

Argue all day if you want that this isn't the case today and its irrelevant. The right is still protected.

Yes that was then, but what about now?

Many rural people still hunt for food. People still need to protect their homes and families. Things haven't changed in that regard.

We let them vote for Dems, why shouldn't we let them own guns?

Yep, the mentally impaired hate the idea of something being "well regulated".

The primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to thwart a tyrannical government.

The threat of a tyrannical government never ends.

Why are there so many mentally ill people on the street? Well, we can thank Reagan for that one. Today if you suspect a family member is going off the deep end and you don't have money or good insurance there is nothing you can do but wait until that family member commits a crime.
When Reagan shut down the mental institutions they gave their patient a 30 day supply of pills and sent they on their way. Most were in the prison system with in the first six months and the remainder were the beginning of the homeless. Reagan did not save a dime he merely shifted the cost from the mental health arena to the prison system.

And no, i DO NOT think the founding fathers, as smart as they were, ever considered citizens owning automated weapons to the point of machine guns.
Rediculous.

The founding fathers knew that weapons technology would evolve because weapons had evolved in the centuries before the constitution was written.

The muskets and cannon of the time were more accurate, reliable and faster to load than weaponry of a century earlier.

There was even prototype automatic weapons being developed.

The founding fathers were smart enough to know that weapons technology would continue to advance.

Is this the criteria you would use to deprive people of their second amendment rights?

And how is it that every other developed country has cured mental illness - but us?
