^^The fear that is being spread is from the anti-immunization people, who talk about MMR causing autism; "toxins" in vaccines, deaths from vaccines, etc, etc.
"Among the 110 California patients, 49 (45%) were unvaccinated; five (5%) had 1 dose of measles-containing vaccine, seven (6%) had 2 doses, one (1%) had 3 doses, 47 (43%) had unknown or undocumented vaccination status, and one (1%) had immunoglobulin G seropositivity documented, which indicates prior vaccination or measles infection at an undetermined time. Twelve of the unvaccinated patients were infants too young to be vaccinated. Among the 37 remaining vaccine-eligible patients, 28 (76% - see erratum) were intentionally unvaccinated because of personal beliefs, and one was on an alternative plan for vaccination. Among the 28 intentionally unvaccinated patients, 18 were children (aged <18 years), and 10 were adults. Patients range in age from 6 weeks to 70 years; the median age is 22 years. Among the 84 patients with known hospitalization status, 17 (20%) were hospitalized.
Try as you may to trivialize measles, it is a dangerous disease. It is preventable with a vaccine that is effective and has an extremely low risk of severe side effects.
Suzy, if Measles Mary's two doses of vaccinations (just like the 7 vaccinated people from Disney) did not work, then the rest of the vaccinated herd would protect her? Herd from WHERE? Maybe measles was "eradicated" in the USA but was it in the rest of the world? It was reported that Mary contacted measles during a trip to the Philippines. There was speculation that the Disney carrier was also a traveler from another country. Does everyone who has ever had a vaccination or the disease itself, KNOW that they have immunity? Demand not only universal vaccinations in the entire world, but also blood tests to make sure that these vaccinations or the disease itself are producing antibodies for overseas travelers?
Herd Immunity is not only flawed, but a pipe dream as well.

Your inability to understand the very basics of what herd immunity means is so frustrating. A person doesn't get herd immunity. Herd immunity applies to populations. When the immunization rates (and/or natural immunity rates) are high enough, you have a situation where an individual who doesn't have immunity is protected because a disease cannot spread for lack of hosts. The fewer hosts, the less the disease can spread. It just doesn't go anywhere. That doesn't mean no one gets the disease. It means fewer are exposed to it. If an unimmunized individual is never exposed to a disease, she cannot get it. The fewer people immunized, the greater the risk of exposure.
Herd immunity cannot be acquired by an individual, but an individual can be protected by it. I cannot get herd immunity, but I can contribute to it by being immunized. When I choose to be immunized, I not only protect myself, but those who cannot or do not choose to be immunized themselves.

Is your point that because a few people out of thousands who are vaccinated don't develop immunity that we should stop vaccinating everyone?
In other words, hundreds of thousands of people getting sick is no greater problem than a handful becoming ill?
Your argument is beyond strange.
