You get no argument from me. Moreover, the argument now isn't only that the military is not necessary. It and the US is out and out evil and only does evil things in the most evil ways and only for evil purposes. Not a bad propaganda strategy to make the US even weaker.

With the exception of WW2, where we were actually attacked by Japan, we should have stayed out of the rest. WW 1 was to drag us out of a depression and put us on the on a course of Wilsonian internationalism; Viet Nam was to protect France’s empire (btw – I was there), Korea an exercise in foolishness as the Koreans would have eventually kicked the Chinese out. Japan can defend itself, as can all the Arabian sheiks.

Our military is necessary for the reasons I listed. Our Empire is not necessary for any reason.

LOL I remeber in the 70's and 80's the liberal media tried to paint the USSR as a Utopia where all were equal. I laugh because in spite of the poor living conditions of the average folk, in spite of the living conditions of all communist countries the media insisted that it was the USA that was in fact the evil ones not the USSR.
For every shah of Iran the Russians had set up their own tyrannt. The sad reality is that the super powers used 3rd world nations like chess pawns.
I will stand behind the USA's record as compared to the communists.
S.Korea v.s N.Korea?
West Germany v.s East Germany?
Japan v.s China?
Nato countries v.s Warsaw apct countries?
No contest.
Afghanistan under the Soviet thumb v.s Afghanistan supported bu the USA?
No contest.

Yes, those are all possible results of an invasion.

Theodore Roosevelt said "Speak softly and carry a big stick"

Our military need to be restored to what it was BEFORE the clinton rape and THEN sit back and display the big stick.....doesn't mean you have to use it....but let every nation know you can and will if necessary.

do we need a military? yes but not a overbloated one. Why are our troops stationed in over 100+ different countries? Have we become an Empire? The Defense budget swallows a huge amount of our taxes for what?

I'd be interested if you could point me to anything in specific regarding the "liberal media's" glorification of the soviet empire in the 70's. Methinks your own biases might be reshaping your memories a bit.

Not likely. S Korea would have fallen to the North. It required the combined effort of the USA and the UN to hold off the chinese. History shows that the war was fought to a draw.
Let us not forget the USSR and its massive arms shipments to N.Korea and China to support their effort. No way could S. Korea have held off the advance. S.Korea would have fall and the USA would have had one less major allie.

I have studied this issue about China vs Japan and S. v N Korea. these guys have some legit beefs with Japan. I started a Japan War Crimes Thread and some one just said the Japanese are the warmest kindest etc. Pile that on top of the Opium trade.

In short, it is as if I shot you in the behind and now I am asking why you can't walk straight like me.

In any case, in a perfect world, we would need no military, no police, not judicial system at all because there would never be any conflict. I guess if everyone smoked enough dope, this could happen.
Yes we will always need a military.
