I don't recall when we had a lot of manufacturing jobs done in this country decades ago that prices were high.
I can go buy a 60" TV with all the bells and whistles for next to nothing. No way that would happen if Quazar or Zenith was still making them in the US.

That's because TVs are old technology now. Making TVs is considered "low hanging fruit" compared to the stuff most 1st world nations are busy manufacturing.

I won't disagree with that, but GM especially has made great strides with quality. But so many of their parts are now made in China. They are almost a Chinese company anymore.
Certain Toyotas made here had higher US content than GM cars.

I recall my Grandfather buying a Quasar back in the 80's, something like 34" and probably $800.
I think the real question is, how many Americans really want to make things for a living anymore? It's much easier to simply tell other people to work hard and do repetitive BS all day.
Americans do not want these jobs. They want more retail and fast food jobs, and they damn well better pay $15/hr, or else!
To answer the question being asked: No, I am not willing to pay a lot more for the same ****. US corporations, as well any other corporations, have to pass the additional cost of producing in the US to their balance sheets, pay their directors, board members and CEOs less and find better ways of producing stuff cheaper.
Producing in China has NOTHING to do with cheaper goods. It has ALL to do with larger markups that corporations get to keep.

Nor I. If the US production workforce can match the per unit Asian cost, bring it back would be my hope. If not, I will happily buy the product fitting my needs no matter where it is made.
