karate is a good martial art, and the basis of all martial arts. i do agree though that it is only a start, not an end. as bruce lee told his students, never rely on one form alone. this is why there are many forms of karate, and kung fu.

It looks like the author was just awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his brave efforts on that very traumatic day.

Journalist who fired AR-15 bazooka awarded National Defense Service Medal
