On Thursday night, the Obama administration informed Congress that it has transferred $81 million within the Health and Human Services Department to finance anti-Zika virus efforts, with $34 million heading to a National Institutes of Health program to support ongoing development of a Zika virus and $47 million slotted to the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) for related Zika preparedness. The money will come from funds set aside for biomedical research on cancer and other ailments, as well as programs to help poor families pay for heating oil and substance abuse programs.
No doubt the conservatives will now portray Obama as hitler for sidestepping the Do-Nothing GOP Congress on this one.
Yes, let's fight Zika. Let's use the most effective tool - DDT.
The EPA took seven months to hold hearings where they went over reports, data and studies and listened to expert testimony on DDT. The final report issued by the EPA committee that was in charge of this in depth review said that DDT was a relatively safe and effective means to control mosquitos and the disease they transmit with minimal impact to the environment. The director of the EPA, who chose not to attend the meetings and supposedly didn't read the report, effectively banned DDT.
If Obama was serious about Zika, he would have the EPA objectively review that report and reverse, or at least relax, the ban on DDT.

actually its the dems that have been the obstructionists on this
there is money already set aside for ebola...but the dems refuse to use it for zika
23 June 2016--The House voted early Thursday to approve a bill to provide $1.1 billion to combat the Zika virus, but Democrats vowed to derail the legislation in the Senate
29 June 2016--Efforts to combat the Zika virus stalled in the Senate Tuesday when Democrats blocked a $1.1 billion House-passed funding bill, escalating the political battle between the parties over how to respond to the looming public health crisis.

Who decided that we needed to spend $81 million on the Zika problem? How will the money be spent? That's a lot of money. And many times, more money spent quickly doesn't mean a faster successful end result.
It's like the high cost of an ER visit. Those doctors and nurses are already working the shift. Then how much is the patient being charged for bandages and other supplies?
As a conservative, I'd want details and an accurate breakdown of the costs before just writing a check for $81 million towards Zika research. And countries like Brazil where the problem is much bigger should also be tapped for funding a cure,
Why should America be stuck with the entire bill for solving the Zika virus? It's not America's job to solve all of the planet's problems. And we also can't afford to.
Let's see, it was Ebola not long ago, the Swine Flu, etc..... Just another way for government to take our money and spend it on OTHER things. What a racket.

Anyone who advocates widespread DDT use is condemning hundreds of thousands -- including the unborn -- to a myriad of illness.
