29 June 2016--Efforts to combat the Zika virus stalled in the Senate Tuesday when Democrats blocked a $1.1 billion House-passed funding bill, escalating the political battle between the parties over how to respond to the looming public health crisis.
So we aren't able to fight both diseases?

Both repubs and dems are to blame for the stalemate.

Zika Funding: Republicans and Democrats Play Chicken
"Republicans would pull $500 million of the $1.1 billion bill from Obamacare."

"The bill would also remove funding from Planned Parenthood. "

"The House also added a rider that reverses a House vote unpopular with conservatives earlier this year that bans the flying of Confederate flags in military cemeteries"

Then in another attempt , they tried to tie a Zika-related bill to a trucking bill that would allow truckers to stay on the road for 80-hours a week.

^^ Yeah it looks like Republicans were REAL serious about getting the bill passed.

I think that the researchers need to come up with a plan, then our government write them reimbursement checks once a month. We can't afford to write a huge blank check for this endeavor. And what happens if the cure if found after only spending $3 million on the problem? Do us taxpayers get an automatic refund on the amount that isn't spent?

We have no extra money. We are already trillions of dollars in debt. And the Zika problem is international in scope, this should be an issue for the UN to work on and for them to ask other nations to donate to the cause.

Anyway, this is probably Mother Nature trying to get rid of the excess numbers of human beings on the planet. So in the meantime, wherever there is the presence of the Zika virus, the women there need to stop having babies until a cure comes.

A truly conservative analysis.

Commonsense. Medical research personnel and their salaries, lab equipment and supplies. The NIH is already in existence, it's just directing their staff to focus on the Zika virus instead of other diseases and viruses (like Ebola). The lab equipment already is there.

But again, more money doesn't mean a faster solution. Throw a trillion dollars at the Zika virus and it's not going to go away faster. As it is, researchers are already working on eradicating the type of mosquito that carries the virus.

I'm so tired of our liberal Presidents making these grand gestures with our hard earned taxpayer dollars. Stop trying to impress the rest of the world.

So what amount of money is Brazil going to contribute to the problem?

Congress Is Using Zika To Weaken Truck Safety

^^ Yeah it looks like Republicans were REAL serious about getting the bill passed.

It seems to me that the funding must come from somewhere, unless we vote in a new tax for it, it will have to come from an existing budget item.

It makes sense to use healthcare related budget items because zika is a health threat.

Republicans suggested money from ACA and Planned Parenthood.

1. ACA IS healthcare.
2. Planned Parenthood because their funding IS pregnancy support.

And your link is decidedly partisan.

Bottom line BOTH parties have made this into a political stand-off. Same *%#! different day.

Actually the ones who are born and survive will most likely in 18 years vote Democrat like the rest of the brainless.
