I sit here and read all these comments criticizing the salaries of CEOs which I also find absurd - but all we hear from the left are complaints about Walmart and manufacturing firms - let's look at the Insurance industry and Pharmaceutical companies - that are holding hands with the Democrats. Their CEOs make much more and the workers get paid diddly for handling all the complaints from the masses, those manufacturing the drugs on the line - aren't being paid much more - and that money is coming right out of our pockets and into the CEOs hands.
You have a choice whether or not to shop at Walmart or Ashley - not so when you're doctor puts you on a medication that's needed by your body. It's America - it's not fair but what in life is?
Its not absurd to be paid a wage you can live off of. Only republicans think that's the case and its a HUGE reason I have never joined the GOP or voted straight GOP ticket. The GOP's war on the working man is disgusting and harmful and they wonder why they lose elections.
Minimum wage jobs are considered entry level jobs for a reason. It is insane to pay $15.00 an hour for a job that requires little or no skill and 0 responsibility. I'm sorry but if someone wants to earn more than they need to have marketable skills that make them worth more.
Not in Texas with the suppressed wages. $8.50 is the starting wage for a framing carpenter today. What I started out making in 1981, as a framing carpenter.
Here as well for plumbing apprentices, it's a shame really. Some of the tech schools in my area took plumbing and carpentry out because kids can make 9.50- $10.00 per hour starting out at McDonalds.
The rich investors come first.. they have to make money for the investors.. they don't care if people have to go on welfare or unemployment and food stamps.. the bottom line is more important than giving Americans jobs. It has been this way for decades.
Ashley Furniture is privately owned, but more toward your point of "rich investors"... WAY too few Americans realize that millions of Americans, themselves, are the biggest investors (shareholders). They have, in aggregate, $27 Trillion invested in their pensions and retirement accounts.
(Source for that $27 Trillion figure: Federal Reserve Flow of Funds Report, March 12, 2015)
There should be no complaining about corporate profits. That's what's funding and/or already funds tens of millions (if not more) of Americans' retirement.
Wow! Your post demonstrates just how far America has gone downhill! You actually believe that someone who works an honest job full time, should not receive a wage enough to live on.
They do earn a living wage. They're quite clearly living a lifestyle WAY beyond their means. That's their problem, not anyone else's.

Your pay should reflect the level of skill required to perform the job along with the level of responsibility.
Floor sweepers typically make less than machine operators. Machine operators make less than the mechanics. Mechanics make less than the shift supervisors.
Hey want to make more? Learn to do more than be a floor sweeper, a burger flipper or the guy that emities the trash cans.

And what pray tell is that wage? And exactly what kind of "living" do you suggest be the target? Many, many definitions of what you're saying so who's correct? You?
As for "losing elections", yep, Congress is filled with and current majority run by those GOP members that lost an election...
The $15 wage jump and other recent laws might just have been the last straw after fighting tons of imports that forced the company to look at other options, ever think of that?
