My kids were taught to be responsible starting at their first teen year for whatever. They were told that when they hit 18 or graduated HS that they needed to be working on living independent of home. Thus they were given the choice of getting a real job, continuing their education or going to the Military. One went to the Military directly and is a lifer with a family stationed in the mainland US and the other chose to continue his education, finished it, couldn't find a career paying enough to be independent and joined the Military and has been stationed in Hawaii. Both have been to Iraq/Afghanistan. They know what the reality of the world is and are not part of these crybabies rioting/protesting because they are upset that the person who won the US Democratic elections is not the person they voted for.
I come from a family that's been solidly military for over a century. Every man, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncles, cousins, all military. And the women married soldiers. I spent 26 years in the Air Force and married a soldier's daughter. I'm well aware of what the military is and does.

It's not the military's mission to fix a parent's spoiled brat. The military can often take a spoiled brat and make a soldier of him, but that's only incidental. It's not the mission.

Moreover, as has already been noted, taking 4,000,000 recruits a year would be extremely expensive. It would triple the size of the federal government overnight. It would endanger the actual mission of winning wars by tipping the proportion of trained to untrained troops.

Nobody should be forced to work for Wall Street.

Everyone should read Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" to get a better understanding of how the US military is actually used.

Come back when you have an adult suggestion instead of this nonsense.

"You could just Google it."

Why the cop out?

YOU made the claim. It is up to YOU to back it up.

"but I can't say I think of him as much of a man"

One anecdotal example does NOT paint the picture of EVERY young man that was drafted.

To think otherwise only shows you ARE not BEING SERIOUS IN THIS DISCUSSION.

Mandatory military service?

It's fascinating how intrusive heavy-handed government is fine as long as it's directed at someone else.

Well Jo, we hear about "equal rights" all the time.

With "equal rights" come equal RESPONSIBILITY.f you want to enjoy the fruits of our country you should have to earn it.

"So what does an under 5 feet, 100 lbs. 18 year old woman DO in the Military?"

What does an under 5 feet, 100 lbs. 18 year old woman DO in the REST of the world?

You could be a "tunnel rat".

There are MORE non-combat jobs in the military as there are combat jobs.

Being you DON'T believe in equal rights you could be a cook, work in the laundry, clean up the barracks and offices, etc, you know, ALL those "woman's" jobs.

" Veterans are unable to find jobs, are on welfare, are on foodstamps, are homeless."

What are he numbers of these that you describe compared to the total number that HAVE served?

I would think that those you describe are combat vets and suffer from PTSD.

As I have stated, there are MORE NON-COMBAT positions in the military then there are combat positions.

To paint ALL service men and women in this way is an insult and you should be ashamed of your self.

There are no "safe spaces" in the military. You either shape up or spend your enlistment in the stockade making small rocks out of big ones.

These young people are lost. Their parents taught them nothing.

They do 2 years of military service and get 2 years of college in return.
Do they get safe spaces and "time out cards"?
