Re: the title of this thread "Canada celebrates "First Hijabi" Muslim news anchor" - that's not true and it's kind of a silly thing to say. That muslim news anchor and the media that reported her story might be making a big deal out of it but Canada isn't "celebrating" it. This is the first I've heard of it and I seriously doubt that most other Canadians have heard about it either nor would they particularly care one way or the other. It's really NOT a big deal except perhaps to the muslim news anchor who chose to wear her hijab.

.

I have an easy time accepting this take. It's a rather select group "celebrating" this. A group with an ax to grind. It's not so easy for me to accept that Canadians as a whole are just dancing in the streets gushing all over themselves about a Muslim newsie wearing a hijab on air. "Cultural enrichment" indeed.

Well that was my point. The whole idea that Canada might celebrate such a minor thing is ludicrous.

And you want to force or shame women in the US or Canada into not wearing their clothing of choice. Got it.

I know that was your point which is why I quoted your post. Canadians aren't celebrating anything so irrelevant. A select left wing Canadian based news outlet maybe, who would like to believe they speak for Canadians in general. Sure. And of course the same type of outlets in the US pick up the story and sling it like the sticky feces it is trying to make it seem like some major thing. The agenda behind sensationalizing this? IDK>

Way too late in the thread for that admonishment. Should have been post #2.

Truly as they see things the only people who can exercise their rights without instant outrage have to be expressing some sort of....alternative culture/lifestyle. In the latter case, like this Muslim anchor, they go all ga ga, spewing about "cultural enrichment" "courageous expression", brave challenge of the status quo", just on and on Then, when someone expresses themselves about something they disagree with and/or have personal dislike (close enough to being hate to call it such) they get just as enthusiastic about in a negative way. Right down to calling for bans and blatant censorship on these things. Whatever they may be. There's a bunch, take your pick.

So much for diversity, tolerance, free thinking and personal choice. I really don't get the gushing over Islamists. As all about gay rights, (the Islamists are about the biggest hypocrites out there on that) women's rights, tolerance of differing faiths, free expression, and separation of religion and government (something I actually agree with but that includes Islam too) as they are yet they give Islam a pass on the things they do on those issues? And think we should throw open our gates to these people? That's right up there with giving Nazis a pass. I've heard of "love thine enemy" but....seriously? Lol, they decide to take one piece of Scripture to heart, and want to apply it like that?

Yes, well, whatever. I'm actually OK with it. If they want to gush over Islam, more power. But flipping a 180 and shouting down other aspects of free expression , that's gotta stop. So till these patronizing phony moonbat leftists practice what they preach I wont give them any respect. When they quit cramming things down others throats then maybe people will quit spitting it back at them.
They're full of words that are meaningless
Progressive=Communist/Socialist
Tolerance=only if you completely agree with them 100%
Affordable=unaffordable
Individual=herd
...etc.

They gush over anything that isn't traditional because the herd hates tradition. That's all it is, nothing more; completely infantile at best and insidious for certain.

Wearing a Hijab DOESNT make you Muslim. It is a common covering FOR Muslims but doesnt automatically make you one. Wearing a Tichel doesnt MAKE you Jewish. Wearing a bonnet doesnt make you Amish.

Im sorry you dont understand headcovering...perhaps research it a bit more.

another example for you of people ASSUMING someone is Muslim for wearing a headcovering when they arent. This is from a Jewish headcovering group im apart of:

" So I got this passenger today, who gets on and asks: "So have you met Abdullah Ahmed Mohammed?" I say: "No, I haven't." Apparently, this is hilarious...and then I get it - it's a snide remark because of my turban...
As he gets up because we're approaching his stop, and he says to me: "I'll let Abdullah Ahmed Mohammed know I ran into you."....
There it was, in my lap! Had to go with it! So I say: "Oh, you think you're funny! You're actually being quite rude and offensive!" And that's all I was going to say, until he went:"Well, maybe if you didn't make yourself up like a terrorist..." I said: "Well, I have cancer, and maybe you should think before you speak, you ignorant racist bastard!" The people on my bus mostly clapped, but I may still have to answer a complaint...who knows"
