It's the same strategy used by European and Japanese automakers for products to be sold in the US market.
Volvo is the latest to do so. States competed for the opportunity to create 2000 jobs, maybe 4000 long term. Volvo chose South Carolina. That it's a Right to Work state, with a history of the fewest union shops, relatively lower wages and tax abatements and new hwy exits combined to create an unbestable offer.

I suspect many in Sweden are none too pleased with this.

The Trump / Ford story seemed over the top but this Carrier story seems to have too much smoke to have no fire. I suspect Trump said he would be decrease their tax burden if they stay but slap a tariff on their products if they moved the entire factory to Mexico. If keeping jobs are really that easy where has Dubya and Obama been the past 16 years???

Obama failed to take action to save these jobs. He is a lazy president.

Hillary would have congratulated Carrier for leaving. She holds American workers with contempt.

Thankfully Trump was elected.

Yeah, I forgot when he bailed out the auto industry the right was there cheering him on and not accusing him of using corporate welfare.

You guys constantly talk outta both sides of your mouths.

First you say that the government needs to get off the back of businesses, and that folks are in business to make profits and enrich the shareholders.

But on the other side of your mouths, you want Obama to step in and take action to keep businesses here. Yet, if he'd done so, you would've said "there he goes again getting in the way of a private business when government has other business to attend to."

And this is why I can't take you conservatives seriously. You guys don't know what the hell you want. And I mean that in the worst way. You guys are flighty.
