If it wasn't about slavery, then why does it state in the Articles of Secession a strong desire to secede in order to keep slavery around? What was Bleeding Kansas about if not slavery vs abolition?
Lincoln did not want to free the slaves, it was purely a political move.
But this discussion is about the South and slavery. Lincoln's lack of desire to free the slaves does not refute the South's desire to keep slavery. We are talking about the SOUTH and why the SOUTH did what it did, so keep it there or move on.
I would love to tell those persons that. I live in an area where there are people flying those Confederate flags. And the truth is, it sickens me to see it. I also know those kinds of people hang in packs together. I don't think I would take them on alone.
So did anyone actually answer the question? Yes, six states have issued official apologies, including one from the US Congress. Those six states are: Alabama, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Virginia.
Well, at least admit that slavery played a big role in this. Why did they want to secede? It was more than "states' rights". The South was committed to keeping slavery. As someone whose ancestors were slaves in this country, that is a cause I have NO respect for, because it goes against my interests.
I think the country acknowledges that, notwithstanding the cruelty and moral wrong of slavery. I am not a black person, I don't know what most black people think.
My future brother-in-law said that he will never forget about the fact that he is the grandson of a slave, but he is not going to hold the modern white people accountable. As long as he is respected as every white man in this country, he would have no problems of that.
well, I can totally respect that.
As a girl with both Japanese/German blood in me, I personally WILL NEVER apologize for the history, why should I? My ancestors/family members are war fighters (fought for America by the way ), factory workers, chefs, doctors, lawyers. I won't apologize for anybody. But for my own safety's sake, I wish Germany and Japan behave from now on, it is what it is.

I wouldn't waste my time, they are in small numbers where I am at, it wouldn't be worth the effort, ignoring is the best thing and it will go away.
Yes, it was a political move. So what? So what if Lincoln didn't think much of Black people? Neither did the Confederates. My concern isn't Lincoln. My concern is why the South wanted secession so bad, it was willing to go to war.
That's what should've happened really, rather than some "apology." I think at this point though, it's just too late.
