He should be attempting to build a bridge between two essential pillars of democracy. He should be the bigger person, act like a president and try to find middle ground for the good of our country.
When HRC was running for president and went 270+ days without a press conference that was fine?
Mike Pence and Rance Priebus were on TV today saying it would be way better to remove the White House press corps from the White House and relocate them across the street to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
This shouldnt be a surprise though. Donald Trump has demonstrated contempt for any press coverage he dislikes, openly attacking reporters in press conferences.
The destruction of our democracy marches on.
I say open up the WH press corps to the reality of how news is distributed today. Walter Cronkite and powerful daily newspapers are a thing of the past. Most of what is left of the old media is just a marketing arm of the democrat party. Not news just propaganda. Democracy is not a single ideology being touted as fact.
I think this is great. Giving a platform for more voices is democracy.
in a normal situation i would agree with you, however these are not normal situations. the public has rejected the media's attempt to smear trump in the extreme, and voted him into office. if the media continues to attack him, they will find themselves more and more on the outs with the american people.
true enough, however in this case the media discredited themselves by being a huge ad campaign for hillary. they have also been discrediting themselves for decades by almost exclusively supporting the democrats in every election cycle.
i am all for a free press, but the press also has a responsibility to report honestly and fairly. you cant openly support one candidate over another, constantly, and expect the american people to constantly take you seriously.
The media gave Trump a 24/7 open mike. They showed all of his events. They barely covered anyone else, in either the primary or the general election. They didn't put the words in Trumps mouth. He said them.
Trump dominated the news because his behavior met the stories' demands. "The news is not about what’s ordinary or expected," . "It’s about what’s new and different, better yet when laced with conflict and outrage.
62% of the coverage of Clinton and 56% of the coverage of Trump was negative in tone
Most of the “positive” stories here were about new poll numbers
(And most of the medias polls are gathered by two external polling companies, not by the media outlet)

Why should a Republican president want them in the White House?
This situation is hardly unique to Trump, try as he may to convince us otherwise. Move the news conference venue over to Lafayette Square across the street from the White House. I fail to see what the big deal is.
Trump will not be the first president to have a less-than-cordial relationship with the press. Presidents and the press have had fraught relations since the beginning of the US republic. The current structure for their dealings is shaped by a hundred years of experience. Some past presidents, irritated by leaks and coverage they deemed negative, have tried to limit press access and even targeted reporters with the power of the US government.
Rutgers historian David Greenberg, who wrote the book “Republic of Spin, said "with almost every president I’ve studied, from Theodore Roosevelt onward, there have been concerns that the president is using his power to stifle or manipulate the press. Even under Obama, you’ve had people say he’s worse (more secretive, more inaccessible) than his predecessors, which only shows how time flies, because [George W.] Bush was just as bad.”
why do you need a press pool when you have twitter?
And YouTube!
That way you can completely control the message to the masses AND not have to answer any uncomfortable questions. Brilliant! Right?
